    Hollands Islands nr Rotterdam

We're planning a trip around battlefields and places of interest in the northern continent next May. We're crossing from Newcastle to Ijmuiden and are considering a different route south, on the N57 south from Rotterdam, taking us across the islands on the west coast. I wondered if any of you guys have used this alternate route, and if its worth it. We're not too bothered about making progress, just looking to do something different. Are the expected tolls prohibitive?

If you mean the road south over the Deltaworks there are no tolls.

I did this route in June this year, had been in Bruges for the night and had some time to kill before the ferry departure it was a pleasant detour, some lovely beaches and a few nice places to stop for a snack.
The roads were busier than I had expected so progress was slow but suited me fine,I am sure I paid a toll for the first long tunnel on the N62 but i don't think it was that much and don't remember any others after that.
All in all worth doing if you have the time.

ISTR there’s a toll on the kennedy tunnel near Rotterdam but if you headed north from Brugge, the Westerschelde tunnel (long one) used to be foc. It always amused me heading south from Holland to Belgium and crossing the border in the village of Philippine.

Great run south, watch for speed camera's and the only toll you'll have is the long tunnel that comes out on the south side near Terneuzen.
