We’re off to Menaggio on Lake Como in June, we have an apartment booked for a week in Menaggio, but looking for suggestions on overnight stops en-route and then back home.

We could just drive direct, but we thought we would have a couple of overnights either in France or Switzerland to break the journey up into a more pleasurable trip either side of the week in Menaggio.

Any recommendations for good hotels or an alternative to a direct route?

Cheers,
Tony.

did something similar a while ago except destination was Lake Maggiore. We rode from Cheltenham, used the tunnel and rode down to Laon using mostly motorways. Day 2 was largely non-motorway through the Vosges to a mate's house just the French side of the border near Basel.
Next day I rode into Switzerland, motorway for a few miles then took the Panoramastrasse to Meiringen. Then the Grimsel pass and then Simplon Pass to Maggiore. For Como you could take the San Gottardo or Nufenenstrasse.

We returned home via St Moritz, Landeck, Lake Constance & Black Forest.

Which ferry route ? If the weather is good the Spluegen Pass is a must do on the way down to Lake Como

yes, hairpin bends inside unlit tunnels is always something to look forward to

Thanks guys, food for thought.

Maloja pass looks good too.

Like the sound of the return journey, via St Moritz.

Any thoughts on hotels?

Cheers,
Smiffy.
