Buddy of mine staying with the in-laws out Clifden way..........reckons he needs a lifeboat or a jetski at the moment!!!

Happy Christmas Pat, on a 14hr shift tomorrow so won't make it. Will call out to you and Mary in the new year:beerjug:

today was not a bad day and I saw a few other bikes out including some young lad on an english reg rev mille aprilla. great noise. heading south tomorrow Pat, have a safe trip if you venture out. i hope there is no frost!!

Rode into Dublin yesterday and sat outside Bruxelles with a bit of grub, people watching.

Meeting the lads at 11 this morning....... I'm gonna try and drag them up into the Wicklow mountains but they're a bit worried about the roads.
My solution is......if the roads get dodgy, turn back, simple!!

A different context perhaps but I've spent the guts of the last 24 hours assisting "mountaineers" out of the MacGillycuddy's Reeks. They should have turned back but failed to do so. Ambition can so easily outstrip ability? But who among us can ride a bike on ice - that's lottery ticket territory.

I absolutely get that.......what I mean by that is.....the main roads are absolutely fine, as soon as we come across roads that aren't.....we turn around and go home.

I personally think that lads/ladies that go mountaineering/hiking in those conditions should be invoiced for the rescue!

Good on ya G. I read about that in the news, I know they had to be rescued but its good to see people out and about and tackling an adventure.

A fine bright day here on the Costa Del Galway.
Delayed for an hour with a fecked battery on the RT, the Aldi yoke failed to do the job so had to swap the battery out of the GS.
A good spin around South Connemara, visited cousins and met up with my buddy and my old GSA.
A chance to test the camera on my new Samsung A5. Very impressive 16 mp jobbie.

I agree with your sentiments to a large degree but I helped a guy down from Carrauntoohil last night in blizzard conditions - it was his first day on a mountain (he had also lost one of his boots in a snow drift). Now that's the equivalent of strapping me to a motogp bike & expecting a result. But I digress & am pulling your thread off topic.

Digress away its still more readable than politics. I always admired the mountain rescue on my Reek climbs. Super fit men and women.
I forgot you did this. RESPECT.:clap

Fuck sake.

Of all the times of year, and types of conditions, and particular mountains, he chose those for his first trip... What if there were no mountain rescue dudes? Just like the gimps who go to sea without PFDs, PLBs and radios...

And how does a boot come off?! Getting my Lowa Combat GTX boots off involves removing my gaiter, pulling up my pants, opening a triple knot in the laces, unhooking a billion lace eye-hook things, and a heap of wiggling...

Sumitted Lugnaquilla once in dense fog (after camping on a slope the night before). Got a bit panicky about getting back to Glendalough in 10-15m viz, but having confidence in my GPS app, having spare batteries for my phone, having paper maps and a compass (and a back-up compass), having a spare phone on a different network, and plenty of snacks and water (topped up that morning from Mad Mary's stream, IIRC), all meant I could stay calm and just keep plodding till I got back to the car.

Whatever about going for a spin on your bike, it's a whole other level of prep you need for going to sea or into mountains alone.

Kudos to you for your efforts GerryC. :thumb2

I think ye had the best of the weather that day around Galway.
Very wet around Munster and cold.

I was happy enough to get back to the fire in the end
