Hope everyone had a good crimbo!

I have found that my cruise control has unfortunately stopped working!, as my bike is out of warranty i opened up the grip and had a look!

It seems the electric ribbon has given up the ghost!

Does anyone know where i could get this repaired? A second hand one on ebay is best part of £200!

Thanks for any help!

You could try scraping off some insulation from the flexible circuit on both sides of the break and solder on some flexible stranded cable to join the broken copper traces.

You will need a rework specialist on printed circuit boards to make a proper repair. Those tracks are broken so very unlikely. Even then a broken pcb is regarded as scrap. Better go the new handlebar route.

How much out of warranty are you. They may do a goodwil gesture change if you know your local dealer well.

If no luck with Pookie, come back to me!

I think we should be able to fix it .

Depending upon where the flexi-circuit traces end up, it may be possible to replace the traces with two wires. I have fixed a couple of switch issues in the past on a 1150 and a 1200 but not done one with a flexi-circuit. If I had the bits in front of me I could make a better judgement.

It looks like a fairly straight forward electronic repair from the photo, as it looks as though it doesn’t actually need to retain much flexibility as the buttons are rigidly mounted once clipped into position and there are only two broken tracks to fix.
I would have thought that a small patch of blue peter sticky backed plastic or similar affixed to the back of the loom to splice it back together, then carefully scrape off the insulation from the top side of the two damaged tracks with a scalpel, tin the exposed tracks and then solder a flexible bridge wire across the broken ends.
A dab of nail varnish or similar would probably suffice to form enough protection from the environment.
What I find odd is why did it brake in the first place?

Anglian,

I’m not far away, if you can get it up to Scunthorpe, I can get it fixed for you, probably while you wait.

Kev
PS. Please pm me tonight for my contact details.

Well what can i say apart from a huge thank you to Kev (Batman1) and his brother for helping me with this fix!

It really shows what this forum is all about.

Once again a massive thank you!
