(mud guard to you and I)

As mentioned elsewhere, the kit seems expensive when you look whats actually in the box, but it proved to be a very well engineered, well thought out product. The installation was smooth, the components look and feel well made and it all fitted together beautifully. Brake bleeding was a breeze and i'm very happy with the overall result. The only thing I may do, is make a small protector for the ABS sensor, which isn't covered by the Acerbis fork guards.

Coupled with the new tyres its looking a BEAST !!

Looks good. Like it.

How much did it all cost in the end with extras/import duty etc

I'm well impressed with it. The brake line brackets, that attach to the calliper are a MK2 and painted black which is great so a bit neater.

Costs were:

£239 for the kit
£65 duty & VAT
£20 Mudguards
£20 Fork Guards
£10 fork guards stickers

£354 all in.

Ok as a comparison, I'll see what my Altrider Kit costs when I get invoiced for it..

Yeah not bad, when the kit alone is £336 from Rally Raid UK. Was worth getting it from Canada directly in the end.

Just a big dirt bike now :)

Were those brake line brackets in the kit? or another extra?

Brake lines and brackets were in the kit. The only things that aren’t are the mudguard and fork guards as there’s quite a few options out there

Have you ever experienced the standard guard becoming clogged with mud? I only ask since it looks far to pristine to have ever been used off road.

I haven't ever.

But I'm fitting the high fender kit as...

a) Its a rental bike, so the more parts I remove, the more protection it gets.

b) I like the look of a high mudguard on this bike.

c) Probably will make it easier to remove the front wheel to repair punctures on trail.

d) Makes your HAT stand out from the crowd.

e) Might disperse mud better and not get jammed on that rare occasion.

A mate is looking at this type of conversion for his A/T , are there any issues with the high mudguard catching the wind at speed and causing problems.

Just asking as all the trail bikes both he and I have owned have had front ends that go light at about 70 on the road due to the wind getting under the front high mudguard.

No, no problem up to 90mph, starts a bit of a weave after that but I think thats the tyres. That particular mud guard is very stiff.

At that point, i'd never taken it off road! Those tyres had 1 mile on. Seen a few pictures of broken off front mudguards. That wasn't the reason though, you can get a bracket that raises the stock mud guard 20mm to overcome the issue. I just like the look of the high mud guard.

But to be fair, this is an Africa Twin, not a helium trail bike.

Definitely. Just need to decide whether to get the Rugged Roads upper bars, or ditch my RR lower bars in favour of the SW Motech bars, as I prefer minimal looks but wont appreciate broken plastics!

P.S I forgot to mention, I had to put the stock horn back on, the mudguard clashed with the bigger Stebel TM80

PPS.

Interesting issue with the DCT. So I did 3 mods in one day on the bike, and i'm wondering which has caused the issue. The bike will not change up gear at high RPM (above 4k) in 3rd, 4th, 5th without coming off the throttle. Works fine at all other rpms in other gears and i have no ABS lights on etc. It's like when you hammer it in first and it wont change to second because the front wheel is off the ground. Mods were:

1) Change of gearing. Went down to a 15t front and up to a 44t rear sprocket. This makes the speedo about 25% out !

2) Motoz ADV Tyres. These are massive, the bike feels a lot taller. Perhaps the front at high speed is rotating quite differently to the rear (in stock form) and the abs pickups are different enough it thinks theres a problem (no abs light)

3) High Fender kit. I altered the ABS sensor cable route, but didn't trap or hit it. Actually I was quite careful with it and as mentioned the abs works fine front and rear.

What exact mudguard did you buy in the end? I quite like the look of that one..
