Birr Castle, Co Offaly, the 3 ft relecting telescope built by Lord Rosse in 1845, then the largest telescope in the world?

Nice site, thanks.

Parsons was one of the developers of the first marine steam turbine - fitted to Turbinia.
Birr had electric street lights powered by a water wheel in the estate river. Said to be the first street lighting anywhere.
Using the Leviathan, they sketched the Spiral Nebula, and this sketch stands up well when compared with photos taken from Hubble.

I visited in '03, amazing place and well worth a call.

The "installation" below was there on exhibition, not sure if it gone now - amazing 3-d faces, one side convex, the other concave, but the concave one looked convex, even from close-up.
