Good Afternoon All.

Can anyone please advise the best way to dump Go Pro footage on the move? I am off to Spain 08-18 April and know that there is likely to be some great video but I only have a few micro SD cards. I need something with sizable storage that will enable me to dump footage, check video's and delete as required.

Any help grateful received.

Another option is one of these. Mate has one and has offered to loan it to me for a trip in August. I have the same problem as you - don't really fancy lugging around a laptop just to do some copy and paste. Gnarbox - https://www.amazon.co.uk/GNARBOX-Portable-Backup-Editing-System/dp/B01NB0Q9QP/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520869368&sr=8-1&keywords=gnarbox&dpID=31UUD0WxUUL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Here's another solution that's a good bit cheaper than the Gnarbox - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtAxvoCVHDs

I remembered that I had an old Samsung Netbook lying around (Win XP). It's just got a 10.1 inch screen and is pretty small. If I don't get to borrow the mates Gnarbox, then I'll probably end up bringing that.

A small laptop?

Gnarbox has crap capacity - especially at that price.

The Canadian fella's solution is good, but otherwise a small laptop and an external HDD. (but I prefer the iPad on hols)

I also looked at that solution, but I found I could get a new tablet and the Western digital with loads more stockage for roughly the same money, and have flexibility.

that gnarlbox at £300 plus would fill very quickly with 4k footage 128gb is not a lot, and for that money you would be better of with a small laptop/netbook and a 1tb or 2tb hdd in a caddy, preferably laptop drive size then you would not need seperate external power, it should power from usb. and if you could afford i would go with ssd as they will take more vibration than a normal spinny/mechanical discs.

Thanks All for the input. I went on the lookout last night and found a 3TB for £153 instead of £189 because there are some minor issues with the packaging - happy days. I wasn't sure that I would actually need the 4GB.

You will do fine with 3gb have a nice holiday, looking forward to see some of the clips. :beerjug:

Well, as I was going to be in a similar situation as the OP later in the year, I also wanted to find a decent solution to this. The ability to offload footage from the memory cards and also have a quick look at the video clips from that day would be ideal I have a Teclast X98 Pro tablet sitting around pretty much unused. It's a dual boot device so its loaded with both Android and Windows 10. I've used the Android side of it a fair bit for browsing the web etc., but I never liked the interface for moving files around. Windows is very familiar to me however and it would be ideal for organising files during the trip away on the bike.

BangGood sell the dual boot Teclast X98 Pro for around €200 - https://www.banggood.com/Teclast-X98-Pro-WIFI-Intel-Z8500-Quad-Core-2_24GHz-9_7-Inch-Win10-Tablet-p-990292.html and if you pick up a multiport USB hub like this - https://www.ebay.com/itm/172834975953 - then you can pop your GoPro/DSLR memory card into the tablet, and have a portable drive hooked up to the hub at the same time. Both will show up as drives in Win10 and all you need to do is Cut/Paste files from one to the other. With the 4 port hub, you can also connect a mouse and keyboard and you have a full workstation at your disposal. Nice for researching routes, weather, accommodation etc. in the evening time. Plenty of poke in the tablet to play your GoPro footage nice and smoothly too.

As the tablet uses micro usb for charging purposes, there's no need for extra mains cables - just use the same cable as you do for your phone. It's worth investing in a decent USB wall charger though - get something that puts out at least 3amps as tablets need more power than phones when charging. For example - https://www.banggood.com/LDNIO-4-USB-Ports-4_4A-Fast-Charging-EU-UK-Plug-Wall-Travel-Charger-for-iPhone-7-iPad-Samsung-Xiaomi-p-1147848.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN

And, no, I'm not on commission from BangGood! :p
