Has anyone fitted one of these to a 1190/ 1290?

I'm about to hit the button, but there seems to be some confusion on which plates are needed to mount to the bike. They do the following:

https://bykebitz.co.uk/sw-motech-steel-rack-ktm-1290-super-adventure-14.html - This is similar to the KTM metal rack, which I already have

Then they do the middle plastic piece in this picture - https://bykebitz.co.uk/trax-adventure-top-box-kit-ktm-1290-adventure.html

Will just the plastic mount in the second link bolt to the larger KTM metal rack?

If anyone has fitted an SW Motech box to your bike, how have you mounted it?

You have two parts, the metal "Alu-Rack" thingy, and then the plastic adapter plate clips into this and is secured with quick 1/2 turn fasteners (and no it won't go directly on the KTM plate) these are specific to the top box manufacturer...

...but handy if you have multiple top boxes, I used to have a metal Trax top box and a much bigger Givi placcy box and it too 2 minutes to swap between them.

Generally it is very good kit, but I think the Givi Trekker Outback stuff is now better, the one top feature for the SW-Motech is the quick release pannier rails, these literally take under 2 minutes to fit and even less time to remove and leave hardly any metalwork behind when removed (just a couple of small metal plates you barely notice)

Thanks for the tip. :thumb

I’m looking at the new Trax Ion topbox, as they’ve redesigned it to be much harder wearing, and they’ve guaranteed that its waterproof. It looks just like the GSA topbox, which I’ve always liked. It’s just a pain that I’ll need yet another metal plate!

I had no leaking issue with my older generation Trax cases, 5 years use with at least one tour per year and always some rain at some point. Would still be using them if it was not that the KTM had the exhaust on the "wrong" side and it was easier to flog the 3 box set and fit new ones than order two new panniers and a new set of rails.

The worst thing on the old ones was the very cheap locks, not that I think any pannier is secure regardless of brand and lock type, but they just felt cheap and tacky. I am sure these must have been improved upon by now...

... the inner bags on the other hand were amazing, well priced and fitted inside my new Givi panniers almost perfectly, we also use them for weekends away in the car, and I use one all the time for business trips, if they still do the same ones then grab a pair of them as well.

Yep, that’s what they told me. Looks like that’s the route I’ll go down.

well got my rack and trax fitting kit yesterday . its all good except the holes for the fitting kit nearer the back of the bike i had to move in as the position was wrong but easy enough

The box has arrived, but the dealer ordered/ SW Motech sent the steel rack for the 1290T, rather than the R/S.:blast

oh crap i thought the steel rack fitted all the range . obviously not .

Nope. On the R/S it replaces the stock rack, and you mount the box directly to it with 4 bolts mounted to the box. On the T you need the seperate mount.
