Have you owned from new?
On the glass, or on the plastic bezel?
On the glass it could be manufacturers marks to identify type of mirror, convex / concave LH / RH
heated / non heated / photochromic etc
On the Bezel could be injection gate points, or similar to identify mirror model / type

Put your adventure wheels aside for the winter all coated up with Uber biker grade anti rust goo. Then come spring marvel at how far the paint has lifted as the dreaded ally worm got busy.
Maybe it’s to help the glue that holds the glass in place, stay put?
It’ll be the remnants from the big glass sheet of “Cut along the Dotted Linel

Not at all, just a curious mind. It's obviously there for a reason...
