Just curious has anyone used the converter cable from Obd2 to bmw diagnostic plug. Are they any good? Where is the diagnostic plug on a 1150 adv

I haven't heard of an OBDII to BMW converter. The only one I know is the GS-911. I've heard of another similar one, but can't remember much about it. If you search for GS-911 you'll find loads of information.

The diagnostic plug is under the seat, on top of the air filter.

It was just something I seen on ebay. I know the GS-911 is expensive but probably worth having if the cable is no use. Would it give much information from an 1150 I wonder

If you mean like one of these http://www.eobdtool.co.uk/wholesale/bmw-10pin-cable-for-icom.html. ...

... I bought one ages ago but never really did anything with it. I was going to connect my old 650GS to an old laptop I got loaded up with DIS which I used for diagnosing an issue I had with the wife's old E46... but never got round to it. The laptop got decommissioned a while ago too... and the tech must have moved along since too... I would also be interested if anyone got it working... now that I have t'cable... :)

Look at web https://www.motoscan.de/ use google translate as its in german.

I have used the cable adaptor, motoscan ap and OBDLINK LX device to connect to my R1200GS LC. Im sure the ap includes 1150, the ap is also free to download and try.

I have the blue tooth Obd2 so I will order the cable and try it might be handy to have thanks lads

Ah well...
Just tried to connect all this up and test and I seem to be failing miserably. :(It took a fair bit of faffing about to get ISTA+ to work with the laptop, but got around most of C++ redist problems. Still, I cannot get ISTA to recognise my bike and read from ODBII at all... Annoying.

I know, no real value in the info above. Just needed to rant a bit. :) I may get back to it and try again at some point.

I paid for my ista to be supplied and installed by a specialist.
My guy only work for the motor trade but there are guys on eBay offering the service for about €100.
I use the adaptor lead for bikes and it all works as it should.

That's a good approach too.
I am an IT guy so I am at least meant to know what I am doing in terms of Windows and such like. :) It is either down to the USB/COM port driver or the actual cable (El cheapo I got off the 'bay ages ago). I may get the ENET cable as I have a newer style car that I may need it on too.. That's why I gave up easily. I may need to re-visit now that my pride's in it. :)

AFAIK, the OBD connector on the 11xx bikes doesn't comply with standard EOBD protocols. There is a guy on Youtube who shows you how to build a blink code reader using about 3 components.
