I’ve been through the Picos a few times now but never stayed there and had days out riding around ,returning back to start point.

I know Asturias pretty well now but still not totally au fait with the Picos.

We’re off to Asturias/Picos in a few weeks.

We’ll have four nights at the Hotel Del Oso and will have at least one day off the bike but probably two days riding out on day trips.

One day I’ll do something like this,as I’ve ridden all the roads individually before and it’ll be nice to show the g/f the area.

Can someone recommend a route that they have done/stumbled across that we can do another day ?

I know it’s probably all in here somewhere !

Ta

I stayed in Potes with the family for a week a couple of years ago - so no bikin'. But we took a day's 4x4 tour and walk, it was excellent. Our driver took us up the farm tracks behind Fuente de, almost to the height of the cable car. Outstanding.

Sounds perfect for the day off the bike .

Booked the tour here in Potes (the Picos de Europas marker)

It's fantastic for what it is. Cheap and clean, and unlike hostals here, you get your own room. They have a restaurant which is also good and about 200 yards further up the road is another small restaurant, if I were to go back to the Picos, I would definitely stay there again.

That's a fairly short day. Take the dead-end road that runs due-north from Posada de Valedon: https://goo.gl/maps/Kn7E33DB3XA2 – not long but very pretty. There's a mirador with deer statue that's clearly the cousin of the one on the San Glorio (N621).

A full day would be this: https://goo.gl/maps/HYUzWm1NRMs - though you can shorten it by not going via Riano. Some sights you'll see in few other places...

Or this... https://goo.gl/maps/gmyZssnGxKp

Plus of course you have the ride to Covadonga and the lakes, plus Sotres & Traviso: https://goo.gl/maps/iqTfGSchYRU2 (you end up riding every road in both directions)

Brilliant, ta.
The second option looks good-I've done most of the first before and we will be staying in Cangas de Onis the day before we get to the Hotel Del Oso !

Riano, oh dear god what a let down that place was, may be it was because it was a dull grey day but what a horrible place I found that to be.

Yes it's a dump but the view over the lake is pretty good and the ride to and from is worthwhile....

Useful - I will have 2 nights in Las Arenas after arriving in Santander on Sept 17th, so a variation on #3 looks a doer for the free day.

Sad to say I was up there as they were creating the reservoir, flooding the old settlements & shifting folk up to high ground mainly at Riano, so I can but concede that it's pretty dull there. The N621 running along the north shore was then a construction road, a bit of a challenge for us idiots on sports bikes. Wiki shows a pic of Old Riano: -

Personally I never get much luck with Fuente De, or Potes; always seems to be in a cloud for us. Anyway, we usually stay down at the Parador at Cangas de Onis, about a mile out of town at Villanueva. Michelin show a nice route covering the whole Picos - La Hermida defile, Fuente De, San Glorio Pass, Los Beyos defile, Covadonga & the Lakes, the Cares Gorges. You would need a good 3 days to do it justice; probably best to split the stay between Potes & Cangas, with a trip up the cable car at FD if the weather is clear.

Yup we’ll be in that Parador before going to Hotel del Oso
