When stripping bike down I pulled a rubber hose off the fuel regulator bit on the nearside of the tank , inside the rubber tube was lots of rust and the metal tube coming from the regulator bit seems clogged up .

What’s its purpose? Do I need to worry about it being blocked with rust?

No it's supplied blocked with rust, only use genuine BMW rust to re-pack it....

...sorry, couldn't resist, it is a stupid fukcing question. :D

If it’s just a return pipe or a breather pipe then I can clean the tube and pipe out - if it has a very important purpose I shall deal with it - the gs doesn’t have one so that’s why I asked

Possibly pesumptious, but?

Have you though of purchasing a Haynes manual or workshp CD. ??

Fuel filler breather? Check the petrol cap well for rust?

My 08 GSA does not have that breather pipe stub. Or if it ever did, it's long since rotted away or lost in the weeds
