Had an annual service today on the road king, basically an inspection and change oils. Bike has done 2000 miles.

Price...

£739

Comprised of £500 labour plus vat (£600) plus the parts. Last time she’s serviced by Warrs of Chelsea.

£131 plus vat per hour is this a record ?

They probably charge more when using hammers and chisels.............

(expensive motoring)

Firstly, why didn't you get a price beforehand ?

Secondly, why didn't you do the job yourself ?

Had a new 2014 CVO Road King, service cost averaged £500 - £600, makes my Rt service costs look like great value.

Didn’t do it myself as I don’t have time, bike is 3 years old with perfect spec and service history. Deciding to stop using dealer service, for me, is higher mileage and I think at such a low mileage / young age might detract from value.

My GS has big 12,000 miles service which was £700 with BMW and the bike is 2012 main dealer history and approx 13,500 miles. Next person to win her can decide if they do themselves.

Joe that's pretty bad, even worse than over here!

One thing I like about Harley's is how easy they are to do most servicing on. If you have a spot to work on it just buy the service manual HD offers for around $80 and change fluids yourself because it's pretty easy to do. As is changing the air filter, spark plugs, brake fluid, torquing various bolts, and adjusting the clutch. Belt seldom ever needs adjusted and valve clearance never.

Maybe next time, or the one after !

I fancy a soft tail slim S so if I buy the right age I will be doing my own servicing.

Welcome to London....

You’ve been proper felt up there.......

My 5,000 service on an Electra Glide including labour, vat all oils and filters is about £260....I use an independent.

Don’t be afraid to ask...

‘how much will the service cost’

I always do.
Don’t care if it’s embarrassing and looks like I cant afford it.

So joe. Have you done the sums. Depreciation, tyres, service cost.

2000 miles. How much has this Harley cost per mile to own.

Oh please don’t. She will be getting more use now to try to make the total cost or ownership and cost per mile more reasonable. Something less than £5 a mile might be nice .

That is ridiculously expensive. What did they spend three hours on? Go back to them and ask them why an inspection and oil change took that long.

For the cost of two services you could have bought something nice like my ISDT Trophy :D

Bonkers isn't it!

I am with you Nick
I ALWAYS ask, be it bike or Hilux or car/van
I was in at AJ's (Rainbow) yesterday and asked for the price on the 1150 gsa for a 36k and they gave me a keenish price but there is a bit more to squeeze maybe - I will ask another dealer to quote first
I had my 2nd service on the Hilux at end of June and book price is £395 inclusive - played off 3 dealers and paid £299 inclusive

I know I should have asked. It juts didn’t occur to me that a simple oil service would entail my pants being pulled down.

So the plan to buy the soft tail slim from them went out the window.

I think I would contact the sales manager (not the service manager) and express your disbelief at the cost to have your bike serviced after just 2000 miles.

Maybe an email.

Got nothing to loose.

£150 an hour !

Over 3 hours to drain oil and replace it !

Still stunned.
