Camping food

Thanks I'll look into those. Tim, like the coffee maker, it looks quite small.

For back up I usually carry a couple of pouches of "look what we found" ready meals and a couple of Mr Bens "2-minute" rice packs (just stir into the hot "look what we found meal" and wait for 2-3 minutes. Tasty than any other ready food I have ever tried, in fact better than you would get in the pub. Can be boiled in the pouch to save mess too.

How you get fresh coffee from your panniers? Hate the instant shit...

Great info thanks

I took one of these this time for lightness and because Bakerman bought it for me.

Morrison’s do the full range of look what we found meals online. They’re good but I think you need more than 1packet to make a meal.

I grind the beans just before I leave on a trip, stick it in a screw top plastic jar and it will stay ‘fresh’ for a week or so. Two heaped tablespoons into a filter paper suspended in a cup of hot water for 5 minutes, while I make the porridge, makes a decent brew.

The Morrison’s Look What We Found range is only a quid as well but online only. £40 minimum spend for delivery if someone wants to go halves!!!!

I always find the coffee isn’t to my taste when made with those pots, wish it was as I have two and they are easy to use.

Have one, very easy to use and not likely to break, better than instant but I’m not keen on French press coffee much prefer filter coffee.

For camping coffee, you just can't beat a good old percolator.

I've tried an Aeropress and a Bodum French press cup. I've had instant coffee and espresso makers. I've even got a basic drip filter holder that you place on top of your mug, but always end up back at my old 'school canteen' style percolator...

I usually go on three 5/6 day camping trips each year and tend to take almost all of my food with me. I fill one of my 37ltr panniers solely with food.

Dried milk, sweeteners, coffee, tea bags, and a little container of that super concentrated juice.

Two packets of the pre cooked rice, enough pasta for two meals, 1 tin Tesco veg curry, 1 jar of pesto, couple of tins of mackerel, and a tin of tuna.

1 pkt of mini nans. Porridge,1 loaf of bread flora and jam. Yes, it takes up a full pannier and most probably weighs a lot more than the pannier should carry, but I've never had any problems and I've never gone hungry. I take something else, but I've forgotten what it is now.

If you’re going to go down the route of surviving on bagged meals then a long handled spork is essential if you want to avoid having to dip your hand into the bag because your spoon is too short.

I heat my meal then use the water to make a brew, not advisable with some of the cheaper brands or ones with a sticky label on them but I avoid those makes when shopping for camping meals :D

Expedition foods at Hull do a really good range of dehydrated foods ranging from 450 cal meals to 1000 calorie ones. There's some chap reviewing them on you tube. The thai green curry looks really good

Jez where the feck are you lot going.
I have been touring for nearly 40 years and apart from a coffee maker (areopress) or press mug, and coffee. I have never taken a damn thing.
ALL over Europe and even the old eastern Europe they have things called shops. You stop go in and they will give you food in exchange for money its a really novel system works great.
I normally go in with a bag and money and come out with a bag full of comestibles, really exoitc stuff like :- bread, milk, cheese, breakfast cereal cold meats tins of stuff, its amazing. Means you dont have to carry it with you. They even sell tins of baked beans for those who cant survive without!!!!
