Anyone here a bit pissed off with the brake lever on the R9T
I don't ride my wife's R9T very often, but last time out I did notice a large amount of free play on the lever before it bites.
So much so that my normal index and middle finger approach to braking brings the lever into contact with my little and ring fingers (and does come into the hand grip if I squeeze hard enough!)
Bike is one of the original R9Ts bought new and serviced by BMW. (They're all like that sir)

You are right on this one...you can adjust the plunger to get play out...but be careful as when you get to too little play the front-wheel can look up on you without pulling the brake lever which can be dangerous...:(
I have done both;adjusted the plunger and bought shorter levers...from HP/Gilles Tooling.
ABM or Wunderlich offer some too...For some reason the 2017-on R9T's have less play...
