Swansong

The missus is not with me. I'll meet her on Friday.

It is sent from my phone. So fucking what?

:D :D :D

Had a bit of a red mist today with some fucktard in his Vauxhaull. Idiot. Then I said to him in my helmet: 'I'm fucking off' and off I went to put some distance between us.

It is sent from my phone. So fucking what?

As if I'm not lucky enough

It is sent from my phone. So fucking what?

The bar was great, we stayed and had a few beers and needless to say I went public about visiting gay bars in Dresden while we were still in there.

So there's now two reasons for not saying that you're a rear gunner while in Dresden. :D :augie

View from the hotel room this morning.

Welcome to tram lines and cobblestones, and it is wet. No dramas to get out of Dresden.

Today the centre tread of the Michellin PR4 is getting tested. And for extra measure once I crossed into Poland the suspension test option has been ticked.

The best suspension test track you'll ever be on.

Motorway for a few miles and then head to Bad Muskua via the not so back back roads which still carry enough traffic to make you think about overtaking. Across the border and take a turn left to check out the roads. Nope. Soon back on the more main type of roads to Zagan.

The rest of the day was spent staying in front of the rain and making way to Poznan. Arrived just in time before the rain settled. My bag with the tools is one gooey mess from the pot of money that popped open. Cleaning time before going out time.

Sometimes I'm grateful I cannot understand the language. The basics and Google translate for more serious stuff. It is bliss.

Followed the music earlier when on a walkabout. Wish I had a dance partner.

What a day. Got up early this morning to get our of Poznan before the traffic got worse. I shouldn't have bothered. The road to Pila (Piwa) was congested and not helped by a RTA of car vs SUV head on. Turned off at Oberniki on the 178 and immediately the traffic situation was better.

Outside Oberniki to suit up for the rain.

I was wondering if I should just head straight to Gdansk cause the missus is waiting but this was a once in lifetime chance to do what I wanted. It turned out to be one of the best days and I discovered a beautiful part of the country full of GS roads.

So here goes. Objective: Klomino. As you get closer you can see why this is perfect for military training. Proper woodland. There is a sign at one entrance to indicate another. Take the first one and you are in off road 2 track road. Sandy and almost binned the bike because of the loose sand. As can be seen on another thread the road is challenging for road tyres. But fear not, a well ridden GS :D

Another stop for a wee.

Klomino. Yeah baby. It is very quiet.

Regarding the above. I dare not going further because the mud was a slippery as hel. Better part of discretion.

The old buildings. Some of which is now occupied but the big ones are still direlect and beyond repair.

You wouldn't say that you are in Poland.

The following roads and the area that is peppered with lakes, camping sites and bicycle trails is massively beautiful. The roads are a mixture of smooth to bouncy to bouncy with potholes.

Another stop for a wee.

And another. Spotted this little fella totally unaware of my presence until he turned around. Curious at first but then I moved :D

And from there it was all the way to Gdansk where the missus is. Having BBQ as I type. Not very social is it.

Thanks for reading. To be continued......

9km of cobblestone gel. Err.... no thanks.

Old Soviet era build road.

Lovely place for a break.

Dresden is great, the old part of the city has some excellent bars but today’s top tip is look for rainbows above the door or you’ll get very odd looks as you sit drinking beers with your wife.

Needless to say, Wessie nearly wet himself laughing when he found out where I’d been drinking.

I took the UKRM old gimmers into a gay bar in Goslar in June. It was the night Germany got knocked out of the World Cup. Good night out.

Some of them would have loved it, others would cry.

After a weekend of drinking and eating with a cousin and her partner we are on the road today. Off to Gizycko. Once you cross the S7 North of Warsaw then the landscape starts changing. From farmland it gives way to woodland and then more and more lakes until you end up in tourist traps like Mikolajki and Gizycko.

The North East of Poland is very beautiful and the roads in good condition. Loads of hills and bends and the occasional lake view.

The missus was in charge of photos so I only have a few from the phone.

One is a 21st century state of art machine. The other is a .....

The next day seen us go to Mamerki and Wolfschanze. We went via Wegorzewo. Top tip. Going to these places it is better to go via Ketrzyn as the roads are much better.

Mamerki

Wolschanze

This place is massive. The railway line you cross several times on the way there connects the 2 sites. Turn up. Park the bike and walk around or take a guided tour. More tourist orientated than Mamerki which is basically unmolested.

From here we made a beeline for Gdansk. The roads are lovely, the scenery turns from lake views to agriculture. The 593, 51, 513 from Ketrzyn to Paslek has light traffic which aided the progress. Between Elblag and Gdansk it is a nightmare of new road construction.

We are in a lovely apartment in the city centre for better money than a hotel room.

Today we were visiting an uncle of the missus. They live near Ustka. The 218 out of Gdansk is a bit crowded but one past the build up area you are in biker heaven. Beautiful forests and twisty roads to Wejherowo. Then much the same to Krokowa before the road turns to run parallel to the coast through farmland and forests. Fast enough to keep you focussed.

We came back a bit late and opted for the S6. A word of advice. Stay frosty :D I had 2 cars overtake in front of me necessitating a move over to the hard shoulder to avoid a head on and a van pulled out of a forest side road without looking and when overtaking on a bad road beware that the car can swerve to avoid a pothole. That was just today.

How are you finding the drivers in general? I reckon that once you get east of Germany they’re a bit mad but they do move over for bikes to pass once they realise you’re there with truck drivers being particularly good for doing that.

Only on the roads with a hard shoulder and not all the drivers. Only those who care to use the rear view mirror. On the minor roads it is so narrow the trucks straddle the middle to avoid the edge of the road and overhanging branches. Overtaking is a handful of throttle in 3rd/4th gear. You have to be very observant as car/van drivers don't give a toss about you.

It is sent from my phone. So fucking what?

Time to update this thread.

Thursday was spent in Gdansk and then visiting family (I have a massive extended family in Poland) and finishing off with a BBQ before turning in.

The city has changed massively in 6 years. New shopping mall where the bus stops used to be looking towards the old city.

The old part as seen from the river. Gdansk feels like home to me. I love this place.
