My old mate is 81 next He has a brand new Jaguar and will no longer be renewed by his present insurer after his Birthday despite taking £750 quid off him this year
Does anyone know of a specialist insurer (from personal experience)for older drivers please? :beerjug:

I think my mum uses SAGA

I can ask her later If you wish

Good place to start Ta if you would :beerjug:

I have just called her

It was SAGA that she used however one of the deciding factors in her giving up driving was the ludicrous amount of premium they wanted now she is over 80 ( ludicrous were her words ) but £900 was mentioned

Nowt to do with the fact that she is a terrible driver in a porsche !

Scratching the surface on this topic it would seem that over 80 is over the hill too apparently

To be fair to insurance comapnies over 80 drivers are probably a much greater risk than say a 65 year old

It did used to pain me that my mum in her 70s could insure a Boxter for the same price as i could insure a much less exotic car. But equally i suppose the insurance companies didnt know as well as I how bad a driver she was.

A friend of my mums also well into her 80s refuses to give up driving despite the fact that hardly a day passes that she doesnt hit something ( fortunately in most cases its her own gate posts or house or as it was last month her greenhouse ) She is more than happy to pay over £2k insurance for her 1.4 VW Golf.

Its only a matter of time before said insurance company is paying out a huge sum IMO

It is a shame that people never realise or accept that they should give up driving and i hope that i have the good senses to know but i doubt it

My late Dad was driving, admittedly just a horrible, wee, turbo diesel Peugeot thing, until he was 91. He was with Saga, as am I at 65.

My mother, in her 80’s, is with Saga, too. A humble VW Up though, not a brand new Jaguar....

As with any insurance, there is no short cut to happiness, nor does one size fit all. So, tell him to get on the phone (or you do it) and start ringing people.

I'd never have thought of that perhaps a search engine too Do you have another blinding glimpse of the obvious?

Beyond asking my mum, no.

I will though report back if and when I hit my 80’s, too.

PS Sagalouts seems to be coming out tops so far. Give ‘em a call. Unless that is his current insurer (you decided not to tell us) is already Saga, in which case you might be fecked.

My Mum is 82 and been with Saga for years. I did her renewal for her this year and went through the usual comparison sites. None refuepsed her insurance and I saved nearly £200 on her renewal price. Hers is a Toyota Yaris mind you, perhaps it is the driver age and car combination that is the problem rather than just his age.

I too ran my mother’s renewal past a few websites and call centres. There was no real shortage of alternatives for an 80+ woman, widow, clean record, no claims (touch wood), driving for 60 plus years living in Stratford upon Avon. But, she has a basic Up, not a brand new Jaguar. OK she could do monumental amounts of damage with it and to it (heaven forbid) but there’s one hell of a difference in at least the impression (and value) a Jaguar creates in an underwriter’s mind over a simple Up.

We could have gone a bit cheaper than the final price we agreed with Saga (they did come down from their opening shot to about £320, so under a quid a day) but, as a renewal, we avoided another load of form filling to switch insurer, which we couldn’t be arsed with.

A great many folk on this site are in need of such hints. :augie

If you guided some of them to the toilet, they couldn't decide for themselves whether to piss or shit.
