Fuel Tap info

Hi guy's please humour me. I think that the left and right fuel taps were side specific on the airheads but I know at one time you could use the wrong side but it changed the operating direction of the cock. Was that the very early models. I was just out cleaning mine and couldn't see how you could use the wrong side on at least my 89 model.
Any technical guru's out there.

Not that I am aware of, "EXCEPT" some earlier ones had a 90 degree outlet from the valve part rather than the straight down outlet ?

Pre 80s ones were/are handed as the outlet points to the rear
