nav 5 turning off while trying to update maps

i recently bought a s/h nav 5, while trying to update maps it keeps switching off after about 15 seconds, battery is 75% charged,
when i go into the mymaps section to see what maps are on it its coming up blank as in no maps loaded,
any ideas or advice

Because battery is 75% charged does not mean it is not toast, try taking the battery out for a few minutes, let it cool down, and try again.

but why is it not showing any maps as being loaded,could that be part of the problem

If it is turning itself off in 15 seconds, it probably has not the time to load up the software.

it will stay switched on and will charge fine on an older computer which does not have garmin express but when hooked to express it keeps switching off.

have you downloaded the latest garmin express, and if you want to completly remove the older garmin express, you can use this tool.
