I have a classic bike on a SORN and it's likely to remain that way.

Can anyone recommend an insurer please?

Footman James quote was only £40 less for a laid up policy than it was for an on road policy, which surprised me.

TIA

Take the wheels off and hide them; then forget the insurance until you want to ride it again.

ps - make a note of where you hid the wheels :augie

We have no idea what your Footman James quote of “only £40 less than” represents in cash terms. If it’s £50 down to a tenner, I’d buy it.

What bike is it? Some bod’s opinion that their bike is a ‘Classic’ is sometimes at odds with other bods’ opinions. What value are we looking at? It it a functioning (or near enough) bike or a pile of bits in assorted boxes?

Whilst you think about that, try Hiscox and / or the NFU.

PS A simple Google of ‘Classic bike insurance’ threw up several suggestions, mainstream and specialist. Get on the phone. The Lord helps those who help themselves, as they say.

Actually, that's not a bad suggestion - they will probably be off this winter as I've got a few things to tend to, now that it's back at home after 15 years elsewhere.

First question with any insurance is.....do I need insurance?
As in....could I swallow the cost, without too much pain, if it was a total loss.
If so, don’t insure it at all.

As far as I understand, your house insurance won’t cover it for fire or damage in your garage.
So if you want it insured, you’ll need a vehicle policy of some kind in place.
Perhaps Wapping can confirm?

It's this - it certainly does need insurance and won't be covered by the house insurance - no confirmation required...

Asking for recommendations from end users narrows down the broadbrush Google results somewhat, hence the OP.

The suggestion to add it to the GSA Devitt policy is certainly worth an enquiry - thanks DANE.

If the Devitt GSA policy is off the Motorrad branded scheme, they are very reluctant to add non-BMW bikes to it. That won’t stop the Devitt chimps looking to see if they can flog you something else.

Have you tried Hiscox and NFU yet?
