I have been cleaning up my wife’s Xcountry and felt that the pitted wheels let it down, the white pits. So to try and cover them up I have used black fire grate polish. I put it on and left it overnight to harden up and then polish it off the next day, the wheels now have no visible signs of pit marks. I don’t know how long the polish will last but I can always redo it. The polish is like black chrome polish but seems to have more body to it.

Thanks for this. Some d***head tyre fitter scratched the paint to bits a few years ago. Do you thing that would work too?

Dean here Simon,
The grate polish will certainly mask the fact that it has been scratched but it is not like paint it may come off again in time, as far as the pitting goes it covers them up fairly well.
