Well,my rebuilt crashed 1100 wasn`t taxed, the XLV750R needed a new clutch release bearing and I didn`t want to risk the Lego bike`s feeble brakes in the Alps,so I took my much cossetted and highly polished red 1100 on a 3350 jaunt into France and through to Italy for the Stella Alpina, then down to the Cote d` Azur to thaw out...

Here we are on the Col d`Iseran, looking down at Val d`Isere
(note Tarka`s alternative to GPS - a MAP - it`s all you need)

Every day in Italy was wet and grim, especially the day of the Stella Alpina ( 10th July )... I had my Tuareg gear on,with the liners in,2 pairs of socks,a tee shirt, motocross shirt and fleece !!!

Here we go then, onwards and upwards on the Col du Mt Sommelier.....

The track was getting a bit silly,as it was about a one in four climb and the width of the bike, with nowhere to turn around.....
at this point,I met a German biker who was nearly in tears, saying he was 'kaput' and couldn`t go any further. I thought it prudent to turn my bike around while I could......

A quick stop for my Stella Alpina badge....
Then back to Bardonecchia for three hours of bike washing, which included bashplate removal to wash out two pounds of gravel and caliper removal to get a handful of grit from each one....
I`d fitted the ( empty ) panniers to act as sacrificial crash bungs - mercifully and miraculously I stayed on all the way up and down !!!
