Hi,
I'm new to GS'er and was recommended by a friend who works at one of the Motorrad dealerships.
I've done a search but can't find anything specifically to do with rust problems on GS Adventures, so am hoping for a bit of feedback from the members.
I've been riding for over 20 years and have never had a spot of rust on a bike, even though most of them were parked outside day and night. This is my first BMW, it's garaged every night and there's a significant underlying problem with rust on the rear subframe.
I bought a 2015 GS Adventure from the Park lane dealership in Oct 15 (actually I bought 2 and a 6 series, so spent £75k that year with BMW dedalerships).
The bike is garaged every night and I only use it to do the 100 mile motorway round trip to see clients in London, so it has an easy life.
Last Feb/March I noticed several rust spots appearing under the ppc on the rear subframe and took it back to Park Lane...typically it was out of warranty, so they told me to take it to the main UK service centre in battersea to hopefully agree a good will gesture, but i couldn't get an appointment with the manager at Battersea until June.
Long story short, by that point the rust had worked it's way further under the ppc so when it was washed professionally by my local garage pretty much all of the ppc flaked off the rear sub-frame. I chased BMW from June onwards for progress and they didn't get back to me until end of Nov, so the exposed frame now has surface rust over it's entirety.
They finally booked it in to the service centre in Dec and have now dismissed it saying that it hasn't been maintained properly ignoring the fact that they have strung it out for almost a year.
I'd like to hear from anybody else who has had problems with rust on the frame or if anybody has experience of dealing with BMW UK on inherent problems & goodwill gestures.
My next port of call is to write to MCN, etc voicing my disgust at BMW's handling of this and lack of customer service.
I'm also organising an independent engineer's report.
I'm happy for practical feedback from any members who work for BMW.
Thanks in advance.
Jonathan
