New owner of 02 R1100S. It had been revving to 5,000 rpm and just cutting out after that.... redline is 6500 and it wouldn't come close. I changed the in-tank fuel filter as recommended... arrow on filter the right way, new in-tank fuel line, ,etc. The in-tank fuel lines were breaking down and debris was in the gas tank. After reinstall and cleaning the tank, it now only runs on the right cylinder ! .... a step backwards. How do I check the fuel pressure (tools required, location of tapping fuel line) & see what I messed up?
Recommendations?

Thanks!

Only running on One cylinder.

Have you tried checking the injector spray pattern in case one is partially blocked. It’s easy to do.....

Pop the injector out of the throttle body and place it on a suitable container. Turn the bike over on the starter. The injector should pulse and the spray pattern should be even and the fuel should atomise. It goes without saying that there is a risk of fire, so proceed with caution.

Checking the fuel pressure.

You will need to break into the fuel line that comes from the tank and T off to a suitable pressure gauge. I’m not sure what the fuel pressure should be for your bike, but if it has the same fuel pump and pressure regulator as the R1150 then 42.69 plus or minus 2.85 psi is the norm.

If you suspect that the fuel pressure regulator is at fault, then there is a trick that you can do. If you disconnect and cap the fuel return line. Then you effectively remove the pressure regulator from doing its job. Provided you have a good fuel pump and there are no fuel line blockages, then your fuel rail will be at full fuel pump pressure. Again proceed with caution.

Hope this helps

If you disconect the return fuel line after the regulator, check the flow there.
If you have good volume and flow , then pressure is ok as it has enough to open the regulator.
If nothing coming out the return you have not got enough pressure.

Good advice so far from the experts on here. The other thing to consider if it's now only firing on one side is whether you might have disturbed the throttle-cable-ferrule on the side in question. If that cable isn't sitting down tight inside the ferrule on the throttle body, the bike will run like a bag of shite.

The biggest cause of all running/starting problems if the tank has been lifted... also to the OP, if the bike is revving to 5k revs withoutout any problem and then cutting out it’s very doubtful to be a fuel pressure problem as the pressure is the same regardless of the revs, it isn’t graduated

The usual nthrottle cable problem as mentioned above.

had similar experience on a Guzzi , aftermarket pipe with built in cat , cat had melted , bike kept running but not past 5k rpm . hth,

But if the pressure is low due to an internal leak in the tank ie: split U hose/clogged filter it is quite possible to run out of fuel at higher rpm.
