Gearshift not returning to center during rebuild - is this right?

Hi

I'm part way through replacing the bearings in my 1150GS Adventure transmission. Everything is going fine except I'm not 100% confident on the gearshift mechanism.

I can shift through all of the gears and all seems ok with the gears, but the shift lever seems "loose" and has no spring back to center. I took a video to illustrate:


I was expecting the lever to spring to the center after each change? Have I missed something here?

Nevermind - I figured it out. There's a dowel in the other half of the case against which the torsion spring in the gearshift mechanism is tensioned. With that in place the lever springs back to center

Be careful.. The dowel must be between of the two spring ends
