Some R1150 bikes have an alternator pulley with free wheel.
Why is this?
Can you use it in other bikes too?

its a free wheel device like you would have on a pedal bicycle

So the alternator can keep spinning at the higher speed rather than slow down with engine braking for example

Also there is a school of though that it reduces inertial torque across the frame

basically as you suddenly throttle off you do not have a 1/2 kg of spinning rotor trying to keep spinning against the engine braking

Is it a standard fitment at some particular stage of production... some years have it, others don't? Or is it an aftermarket add on?

Is there a specific part number for it?

Part No 12317678716. Bit pricey for what it does.
Could probably be retrofitted on the Bosch 5Oamp alternator if that’s what you have fitted.
Would probably also require the replacing of the ribbed belt, as the diameter of the fixed and free pulleys are not the same.

Introduced on the Twin spark models from 2003 onwards.

Probably what is lurking behind my cover then. I will have a look one day, when I need to, of course. :D
