Colorado I - 2nd October

We actually visit Colorado twice, the first time is detailed here, and the second will be in a later thread.

We were still a bit shell shocked from the ride from Jackson hole yesterday but Kent and Carol made us a nice breakfast and we were joined by Garry for a nice family time. It made a great change to start the day with some other people. The day became very warm in the afternoon, peaking at 93 F. We spent most of the morning talking to Garry and Kent and we had a little time catching up on our E-mails. During the afternoon Mike was entertained by Sierra's (10) and Rachel's(8) (also known as Rachet !) jokes and he was then nearly beaten by Sierra in a long Chess game.

Kent, Carol, Sierra & Rachet !

After all the mental exercise, we gladly volunteered to play soccor with the Girls .. after all, we should be able to walk away the clear winners. It was still very hot and and Fort Collins is at 5000 feet plus, so the game was played at altitude. Yes...you can hear the excuses coming.... and by the end we were very red faced (Mike redder than John of course! .. guess who wrote this originally !!) and very short of breath. Mike and Rachel's team won though !! but chose not to visibly showboat round the "yard, house, town, state and country!".

...The Result !

A quick shower and we were off to dinner with everyone for the evening to Austins, a local restaurant that Kent & Carol frequented. The Girls were both presented with the sort of Sundae for dessert that our waist lines just won't tolerate anymore and they tucked into them very happily.

Rachel manages a Sundae smile.

We stayed with Kents family for the week and it is impossible to express how generous and kind they were to us both, giving us courtesies and trust way beyond we could have asked or expected, and we wish to recognise and thank them here on this forum. We were also lent a car by Garry and his wife, Jill, to help us get about for shopping etc. Again, we wish to thank them too.

Garry & Jill.

I had to change both my front fork seals and decided to fit some rubber boots to protect them for the future, whilst John went shopping, for, amongst other things, external aerials for the Autocom bike intercom systems.

Kents garage.....filled with our stuff.

When not working on the bike, I started to catch up and move our Traveloge from Horizonsunlimited to ukgser.com which is hosting what you’re reading now. We also ordered some voltage LED’s to more effectively inform us of how heavily the battery is being hit when powering the heated clothing etc.(These work very effectively except when the voltage does drop too low, they double in intensity and flash intermitently ... just when your likely to be using your heated gear and spot lamps....at night, where they are far too bright...and hence distracting!)

Over the time we stayed with Kents family we watched Sierra and Rachel at soccor practice and continued to shop for spares and other necessary items. We also enjoyed playing various board and athletic games with the girls, where once again I nearly lost at Chess, this time to Rachel.

Rachel on the return to save a goal.

On our final day I cooked a meal for us all as part of a way of saying thank you and we had a really enjoyable evening. We had to leave fhe following day as snow was forecast so as we finished packing and put on our new BMW rain oversuits .... we looked like the reverse of a slimming advert.....and chose to "Blobby" the girls between us as a final gesture of friendship.(Mr Blobby was a UK TV character known for his bad behaviour and squashing people with his rotund physique.)

The "Blobbies" ready to leave....."The Dangers of Pie ! ... it's ok to say no !".
