First Ride...

Andy and myself had our first ride of 2003,on Sunday.
Starting from Ripon to Masham/Middleham/ Leyburn/Hawes/Sedburgh/Devil's Bridge/Ingleton/Ribblehead Viaduct/Horton In Ribblesdale/Settle/Cracoe/Grassington/Pateley Bridge/Ripon about 140 miles.
Great weather and roads not too busy.
Bike skills very rusty and a bit wobbly-especially with a pillion for the first time in ages(still they keep you warm on and off the bike)
Saw loads of GS's - way too common now.........the word must have got out.
Loads of trail riders out - must have sen about 200 bikes in the Dales, mostly KTM's.
Views over the tops were ace and it was great to back out on the GS after a 4-5 month lay off.
On a more sombre note on the 1st real biking w/end of 2003 - North Yorkshire has had it's first two biking fatalities. 1 on Sat, nr. Selby and 1 on Sunday on the A170 near Thornton Dale. Both involving the bike hitting a car nr. a junction, both riders dead at the scene.
Remember to ride safe - be aware and ride to arrive - skills are rusty in spring after winter and roads are cold, with tyres taking longer to warm up,combined with low winter sun. All potential hazards.

Top Advice JohnnyBoxer!

Ahhhhh, those place names bring back memories, some great roads in them thar hills !

Spot on words re first time out for a while, easy to think you can pickup where you left off .

Sad to hear of the first Fatalities already, standby for several "Road Safety Initiatives!"

...........more cameras, stop checks and Police patrols on our favorite roads on nice sunny days!

Ride with them Wide open (eyes) they'll be out there just when you least expect them !! "That'll be 3 Points and £60 please Sir" or worse, " See you in Court Sir"
:(
