Hello,
Thanks to a suggestion from Bill gser, route for R1 starts outside McDonalds on the A47/A10 roundabout near Kings Lynn then:
A148 to Fakenham and onto Cromer.
From Cromer follow signs A140 signed Norwich.
Turn left onto the A149 signed Great Yarmouth (stop for tea on the sea front if still open).
From Gt Ymth follow signs for A12 Lowestoft.
Stay with A12 and follow signs for Ipswich.
Turn right onto A14 over Orwell Bridge to Copdock services for more tea and fuel if needed.
Then join A12 signed London/Colchester.
Go into Colchester and take the A(B?)1026 Maldon.
From Maldon follow A414 to take us out of town or B1018 then right onto B1012 through South Woodham Ferrers and then left onto A130.
Follow A130 onto the A13 which will then take us direct to Dartford Crossing or if the next leg could start at Thurrock Services (R2 - where do you want to pick up?) JOB DONE

GS brakes in bits at the mo, so might do the run this weekend on the Fazer to get timings.

What are the dates for this? I can pick up and escort from Ipswich to Dartford if I'm around as I know this part of the world well and can tweek the route to include a couple of good tea stops if wanted.

The confirmed dates for the 'Pink Way' Around Britain Challenge are 6th – 9th September 2006.

Region 1 will leave Kings Lynn at 09:00 on Wednesday 6th and it is estimated that the final leg will reach the ‘finish’ around midday on Saturday the 9th

(copied over from Lucy's thread.... :) )

Hope it helps.

Speggo ... glad to see you're up for another challenge , not as far as the last one and maybe more comfortable, as well.

I may find you a drinky holder, as there are no tea breaks on this one !

Cheers Steve :thumb

route

Hi Andy, :bow
Let us know how you get on. I recon it it should take about 3 1/2 hrs, subject to how many go? and with drink/fuel stops, this does not take in,
the last caravans ,tesco and container lorries and of corse fleet drivers.
I recon the worse bit will be between
Yarmouth to Lowerstoff,
as this is the port area and then when joining the
A14 to copdock services.
As this is also a lorry park and super store area.
The next bit will be Colchester, as we pass thru the town, as they have those twin roundabouts.
The last bit will be entering Thurruck, again this is a lorry service and lorry park with loads of super stores the bits in the middle are pure country side.
just a note when you come off the A12 for Colchester go straight across the r/abt Mitsibushi dealer on left thru traffic lights over small r/abt and down hill (speed camera on left) to r/abts turn right onto main road and then look for signfor Maldon.
Cheers Bill :clap :clap

route test

Hi Andy,
If you are going Sunday :nenau and you want Company. Iam off work so give us a pm :beerjug: Bill

A12 / A14 from Ipswich to Colchester is not as pretty as going down through Manningtree by the Estuary and down the back way to Colchester - I know the area well, and would be happy to guide anyone down from by the Orwell Bridge A12 to Colchester? Just a suggestion mind - don't want to put a spanner in the works! I'm available Sat PM or Sun PM this weekend if needed.

good idea

Sounds a better route to me :bounce1 cant make Sunday :( got to take left side engine bar off  . I do'nt know if Andy still up for it though :nenau Bill

Hello, this Sunday may be difficult for me too now :( . Family duties Saturday, followed by a probably-messy beer session Saturday night then maybe work on Sunday, arse!
Thanks Bill and 650EB for the route suggestions! I'm defo planning to get out some time over the next two weeks for a trial timing run, to help the national planning team—if the weekends don't free up then I might take a day off mid-week and do it. There'll be another ride-out with Duchess later in the year, for a dry run of the day for her benefit, and anyone else who fancies coming along :thumb

Watch this space! :D

Route length

Hello,
Just had a quick play in Mapsource and our route works out at 200miles +/- 5 or so. (That includes 650EB's Manningtree tweak.). It's a right mix of roads, some single carriageway A's, some dual carriageway A's, some town work (especially Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Colchester) and some twiddly scenic B-roads.

We need to ride it to suss timings for sure, but keeping it legal and with at least one fuel/tea stop I reckon we'd be doing well to do it in under 4 hours (average 50 mph), probably a bit longer.

We'll do a test run at nice steady speeds and see how it stacks up for real, but I thought you might be interested in a guess-timate!

Andy

edit: If anyone would like a copy of the Mapsource file PM me your e-mail address. Don't know how to upload it onto here!

Right then, never attached a file to a post before, let's see if this works! :D

The Region 1 route in Mapsource. (To those who PM'ed me I'll e-mail it as well, y'know, belt and braces.... )
