Ok, this has probably come up before, but I was wondering if someone could explain this one : M*ll £320, Alan Jefferies £150 ish...??????

And before anyone asks, that is including all parts and fluids..

Whats the difference? M*ll have been quite good with me, so I am rather confused..

Did one include annual checkup?

Anyway, they would be nice to you if you paid £200 over the top for your services. might even get a cup of coffee included for that! :nenau

My last service 6k was £220 :thumb

Don't think it did... but then again..

would it really make it double the price?

The lad from Alan Jefferies had a good chuckle, apparantly I am not the first to notice the difference is price.

Since my 1150 fell out of warranty,I've started doing them myself, and I'm no great spannerman, just slightly competent. It's really simple.Even done the valve gear adjustment, scary at 1st,but actually very simple with the instructions that are available via this site.My 24,000 service with front and rear pads, cost me all in about £ 130 in parts. This included changing all fluids, and fuel filter. Without the brake pads it'd be half that.My service next spring will be about £ 30 :D :thumb These dealers, they do like to charge :nono

...1150...6,000 mile service.....Jefferies...£176.56 ( last June ) They said they had done everything that needed doing.

Good enough for me..........but we could do with a Steptoe up here... :thumb

Had my 6k plus annual inspection done on my 12 at Mill 04/11/2005.
The cost on the invoice for the service with annual insp. and oil/filter/washer was £168 plus VAT
At the same time fitted two Tourances for £155 plus VAT
Total bill was £324 plus VAT totalling £380

What about Andy Metcalfe in Redcar. Never used him myself but other posts have recommended him.

Quote for 18K & annual service @ Mill = £320

Dave.. Glenn who you met at the Beamish Mary took his 1150 down to Roy Gardner last Saturday for a 12,000 mile service.. sure he said cost was around £140. He's well impressed & was allowed to sit in Workshop to watch work being done.

Thanks, Colin, I'll give them a call.

I've got a friend who runs an independant garage up at Consett who I was going to visit today, but Mill reckon you need specialised equipment for fuel injection set-up, which I doubt he'll have. Or is that just a sales pitch?

If your talking about Mark at VTS , i would still give him a ring . I think he'll know more about the bike than BM . :thumb

Hi Dave,
Please try Roy for your next service, you wont be disappointed. Fully qualified BM fitter since 1977, so know's his stuff. Great technician, great price and a really nice bloke, with the added bonus of watching your bike being pampered. Give Colin a ring for my tel number, and I will give you more info.
Glenn

Cheers, Glenn. I'm popping up to see Mark at VTS anyhoo, it's been a couple of years since I've seen him, shouldn't get that out of touch with old friends.

I've got a good quote from RJM too, it seems like all of a sudden I'm spoiled for choice. :)

Had mine done at Mill the other day, total cost £276, this included the 6000 miler and an annual service, before I went I contacted Jeffries and the quote from them was as below

"""The cost of a 6000 miles service on an R1200GS is approximately £165.00
including Vat

The cost of an annual service is approximately £145.00 including Vat

There will be approximately £50 - £60 discount if you gave the services done
simultaneously."""

Toatal cost before discount would be approx £364 and with discount £305, so I stayed with Mill as it's local.

Might try one of the independants when the warrantie's expired.

I really don't know why they charge so much more for combining the annual and mileage based services. There is little additional work between the 2.
