Morocco - like I said, it won't be easy

The 'bridge too far' near Tafraoute. Note the just-wide-enough gap to squeeze panniers through, the rickety steel up-ramp, and the planks to prevent wheels sinking into the wet concrete

Getting down the far side needed a short diversion throught the trees, Jinkxy makes it look easy

Little did we know this was only the first of four or five bridges in various stages of construction. All of them needed ramps to be bodged together out of planks or rocks, while the construction workers enjoyed the entertainment :D

It was all worth it for a beautiful days ride through shady palm groves and dramatic rock formations.

Then we found an off-road playground, and rounded off the day messing about in practice for the serious pistes to follow.

A quick dip in the hotel pool was followed by a refreshing beer.

Next morning, we seal a cracked front engine cover with a spot of araldite - easy peasy - then set off on the tarmac to Tata.

The Anti Atlas mountains around here show the rock strata twisted into amazing contorted shapes and vivid colours.

And so to our epic, indescribable, unforgetable day on the piste from Tata to Igherm. :clap

The evening sunlight as we crested the steep climb out of the valley was amazing, throwing the contours into sharp relief.

I don't have any decent photos of the next 2 days pistes - it was just too feckin hot to think about anything but survival. We all agreed we should have taken more water with us, and were glad to arrive in Zagora after some tricky navigation as numerous pistes criss-crossed through patches of sand. This was a tough ride, but immensely satisfying to have crossed the big bad desert and come out the other side. :thumb

Our next big piste was the M5 route south from Tinerhir. Stunning rocky mountain scenery, and no sand - hurray! :clap

At the top of the mountain we bumped into 3 well-travelled Brit bikers, Austin Vince and Charlie of Mondo Enduro fame, and Louis Price. They were filming footage to be shown at this years Horizons Unlimited weekend in June, so if you're going, look out for 3 GSers in the video!

Two extremes of off-road touring in Morocco: big GS, or tiny trail bike. Either one will do the job. :thumb

A few days later, in the dunes, 4 wheels are better than 2. Don't try this on your GS. :nono
