on the move
Hello all,

As you may have seen or heard, we were forced to change the location of the PNWGS
Rally.

A lost our reservation at the Conconully State Park due to forest fires.
The State has taken over the Conconully Campsite as a base camp for
fire-fighters for the next 75 days, and the town itself is on alert for a
potential evacuation if things get out of hand. No worries, to make a long
story short, the good folks at the Pacific County Fairgrounds in Menlo (yes,
the very same where the WSBMWR Club Rally was just held) offered the use of
their considerable facilities and the entire fair ground for the GS Rally,
so we now have a new home, which may be a more optimal ride for those in the
Greater Seattle Area. Depending on your route, Menlo is about a 130 to 145
mile, 2-1/4 to 3 hour drive from Seattle, totally doable even after work -
we'll even be serving dinner until 9:00PM on FRI for late arrivals.

The Cascade County Fairground has a huge grassy camping area, almost
unlimited space for bikes, cars, trucks, trailers, tents, campers and RVs,
to include over 20 power/water hook-ups (no sewer) for the camper and RV
crowd. There are restrooms with HOT RUNNING WATER, but only a single male
and single female shower stall (come on, it's only a couple of days, showers
are over-rated anyway). There is both a dirt and grass "parade and drill"
area for the GS Clinics. There are lots of facilities, plenty of covered
seating, enough picnic tables in the food service area to seat the entire
group at once, real kitchens, a building with SEATING for presentations, and
local volunteer organizations have offered to prepare and serve all meals
for us, and believe me, the food will not disappoint! There is a small
convenience store adjacent to the fairgrounds, which even sells gas. Talk
about kicking it up a notch!

Best of all, there are plenty of gravel, dirt, and forest service roads in
the area, and we've been given some good info from the local volunteer fire
department on which roads to take.

Because of the change in venue, we're opening up reservations for the PNWGS
Rally again until the end of day, SUN 06 August, 2006. Don't miss this 2nd
chance for a good time, and a GS-centric one at that! The PNWGS Rally
website is still up and running, just click through to the homepage. You'll
find links there for both info and registration.

The WSBMWR Rally just wound down at Menlo, and the reviews coming in
are great. General consensus is that we have taken a step up in our choice of location.

If you know anyone else interested in registering for this event, please contact me at < registration@pnwgsrally.com >

Sounds like a good weekend ahead. Hope you enjoy it.

FWIW, I was at the rally in Menlo last year and the whole experience was great. The venue is perfect for holding rallies. Last year was the first time the rally was held in Menlo and the reaction of everyone was very positive. The locals put up a good spread and made us feel welcome. I guess that's why this year the WSBMWR rally was held in Menlo again. I missed it this year though :( :(
