can anyone recommend extra lights i can get for the f 650 gs 04 onwards mine is 07 plate.

have looked at touratech and bmw, like the fog lights from touratech but cannot afford the aux light from touratech but the bmw extra lights don't look right but if anyone could advise me and if there are any other makes out there that are easy to fit to bike and gives me extra light at night so i can see where i am going will help as find the standard light is pretty poor at night...

so thanks in advance.

Just done a set of the Micro DE's converted to HiD, ace result and a good price, but you would have to find the bracket to mount them, other than that a HiD is running on a tranny at the moment which will fit the 650, waiting for the result:thumb2

The Touratech aux lights are just Hella Micro DEs with some additional bracketry and added Touratech tax. I've got a pair on mine and they make hell of a difference.

edit: Les beat me to it.
I'll be converting mine to HID soon thanks to Les. Not that the standard DEs aren't any good, but I like lots of light.

I've never been a fan of Touratech or Wunderlich lighting kits owing to their cost and tend to look at main stream lighting manufacturers in paticular PIAA which I've used in various forms on the 1200GS.

When Ms Cheek's 650 arrived a couple of weeks ago I started looking at options for additional lighting, not only for night time riding but just as important for day time use to increase visability to other road users.

Having looked at options for light bars for the bike I found the choices very limited (could not find any in the UK, those I did find where in the US) so decided to look at what lights could be fitted without one and decided to try a pair of PIAA 002s which I've used before fitted directly to the bikes frame just forward of the front indicators.

Here are the results from the work yesterday, the final wiring has not been completed but I intend to do away with the bullet connectors and solder the connections then use heat shrink.

I've gone with the LED version of the 002 as these are to be used as full time running lights for visability (switched of course officer :augie ) but they are more widely available with a conventional halogen bulb with the same mounting brackets and bodies.

For improved night riding I'm going to fit an H4 Hid conversion to the main headlight.

The 650 does not have an alternator as large as the 1200 so using an LED light makes sense for full time use, they draw low ampage and do not require a relay.

Hang on for the HID kit. I am testing 2 types for Colebatch at the moment on my wifes Transalp. I have fitted the telescopic type and I am quite impressed with the results but will reserve judgement until I have tried the new type with 2 HID bulbs on one holder. I think we have a solution to keep the lo beam on when switched to high beam. The result should be awesome.
Should have an answer within a couple of weeks.
Colebatches slim ballasts are the dogs dangly bits and will find a home really easy. They are 50w too so much more powerfull than the 35w available elsewhere. Do know costs yet but they will be competitive I'm sure.

Have already dropped him a mail about a conversion:D

Look forward to hearing the results of your tests. :thumb

has anyone got links for these additional lights people have suggested?

need to get them soonish and fit them as going to scotland at end of month as doing a sponsered ride which has taken a year to organise.

For PIAA lights contact Specialist Leisure, I have been using them for a while now and their customer service is excellent. :thumb

If you have a look at this thread you can find details of a members discount that is in place. :augie

I assume 2 bulbs will require 2 ballasts?
Will there not be an issue with excessive heat generated by both being on at the same time? If this works it should be awesome as you say. 50W + 50W plus twin 35W HID Micro DEs should burn anything off the road! You'll be able to see right through any vehicles in front

Reference heat. Easy answer is.........I don't know??

As to two ballasts then yes that is correct. The new ballasts are less than 1/2 the size of the old ones so fitting won't be an issue.

Trouble with the telescopic bulbs is that I'm not entirely convinced that the full beam is high enough. the old twin beam set up was great on low beam but on high it threw the light to the left. Great on left handers but more than a bit poo on right handers.

That's why for now I am reserving judgement.

try these if on a budget just changed mine. Used the brackets from the lights and some old ones. £30 + £11 for pre wired loom and switch Halfords

I think they look great hope u do
Oh as u may know being 55w halogen they will suck up power from your bike so only have them on if you are on a decent run and not just nipping to the hairdressers
