Anybody know a source/website to download decent maps of Libya onto my Garmin V. Detail of the coastal route from Tripoli to Tubruq would be really useful.

Many thanks.

I have the Garmin World Map - but the detail is only about on par with the Atlantic basemap.

Chris:
There's a chap being interviewed by British Intelligence and the CIA in Afghanistan who could probably help you. I'm sure you've got the right contacts.

Libya Online might be able to help:

Seriously though, I don't know about GPS but there's TPC Military Map of Libya (1:500,000 = 5miles to 1cm) available.

Here's a sample . . .

Try The Map Shop at:

or better still, Stanfords in Long Acre, Covent Garden (one of my favourite shops):

Thanks chaps. The cartographers at Garmin have kindly provided an updated more detailed version of their world map of the country which is standard issue to Western oil companies working in Libya.

Chris,
very interesting, did Garmin charge you for that? I wonder what other maps they have squirrelled away....

Mike it came from Garmin in Kansas and was free as a one off download and carried the usual use disclaimer and copyright warning. But it took less than a day to arrive by email link which had "newmapproduct" in the address line ;) !?!
