Hi folks,

Plans for Eastern Europe have hit a problem. My insurance company is telling me I an not covered for various countries. I need a green card for Bosnia (though Herzegovina is somehow not even listed ! ), a green card for Albania and Macedonia but they will NOT cover me for Serbia and Montenegro.

Any suggestions, including changing policy, as mine is due for renewal the day I come back so swaping to a different insurer that covers eastern europe is an option to stop faffing about with green cards and being asked to pay, at the moment, £36 to not get all the cover I want.

Groupama through carole nash do provide cover for all the countries... but numpties on phone are often ignorant! 'above my pay grade...' to quote one!!
You dont actually need green card for Serbia as they are now party to the EU agreement...so are obliged to provide minimum cover !!

Groupama will not cover a Rochdale post code as this is considered more of a risk then Eastern Europe. As far as I can tell Aviva do not comply with EU law and just refuse to insure you in an EU country.

It gets worse......according to Bennetts, Serbia is not in the EU, which will no doubt be news to them. Most insurance companies tell you that they cover the EU and then give you a list of EU countries they do not cover ! !

Advice to anybody coming to Rochdale, I suggest a full armed escort with full air cover at is seems Rochdale makes Syria look like a relaxing holiday resort.

I can now fully appreciate people who ride uninsured.

Is what I meant (explained badly as I am mightily pissed off - shouldn't type when this mad) but it is not a signitory according to the insurance companies. It seems they are willing to extort huge amounts of money off you whilst giving little in the way of service and avoiding insuring you anywhere where there is a 0.1% risk of a claim. The most common response is, sorry - don't insure you there. Most don't even cover Bosnia, Albania and quite a lot refuse Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia...even Croatia.

Am now feverously checking my policy to see if it actually covers me if the bike leaves the garage and is ridden on the public road.....am sure in the event of a claim there will be some weasle clause (sorry sir you fitted a non-approved GB sticker and didn't tell us).

I hate bloody insurance companies - a pox on them all and may their manhoods shrink to a shrivelled husk.

The saga continues. Finally got insurance through AXA for Serbia and Montenegro....................however they only do a 1 bike policy so stuffed with the KTM. Can then insure the KTM seperatly but then have no no claims bonus on it so expensive. Funnily enough AXA told me they can offer me insurance but cannot tell me what said insurance covers......interesting company policy. Most brokers appear to have no idea what they do or what they cover....when they finally answer the phone that is. Now all I need is cheap insurance on the KTM or cancel the policy when I get back and take out a new multi-bike policy.

I want a job where you sell stuff to people but can't tell them what it is, don't know what it does but they have to but it off you.
