It's only an opinion, after all......Not exactly gushing with praise, is he:D

He loves the mighty Honda though :bow

Good review tbh, I like his vids.

Honda may offer dull machinery, doesn't mean it isn't brilliant.

I exchanged the opportunity to ride my 1150 back from Spain a few years ago with my wifes brilliant little 650 Transalp. It was comfier than the GS, a little slower, but ultimately despatched the 1000 miles easily and economically. At no point was I bored or wishing that I had chosen the GS over it.
I still love the 1150, if it ever fails, I'll happily drag the Transalp out for a play :thumb

Hi Guys,

I'm a new 1200GS owner (picking mine up soon) and having watched this vid, I am afraid he comes across as the reason I stayed away from GSs all these years.

He is the stereotypical GS owner - a fat middle aged man who harks back to how good things were in his day and how nothing will be as good as his steam powered GS.

Having owned and ridden a lot of Jap\Italian bikes, and having ridden a few GSs over the years, I could never understand the appeal....slow and boring with a stupid indicator system which went against what everyone else was doing.

Now that I am a fat middle aged man that has been doing more and more touring miles, I have started to find my naked sports bike becoming a bit too uncomfortable. This has led me to look at the new breed of adventure bikes. I wanted a bike that was comfortable, I could tour on....and yet was still capable of scaring sports bikes in the twisties.

The new 2003 bike is it - its a revelation!
IMO it is a sleeker, prettier, more manageable bike for short arses like me and yet still retains the GS look and feel....BUT can become an animal if the mood takes you. This bike will definitely appeal to the younger rider that has always had one eye on the GS but felt he needed to wait until he had aged another 30 years before owning one.

With reference to some of the comments this guy has made:
Initially I too found it a bit snatchy - but over my test rides, I adapted to the bike and by end the of my 2 x 2hr rides, it wasnt snatchy at all.
If he thinks the GS is snatchy - he should try a Multistrada !

Clunky gearbox - I didn't find it particularly clunky - my CB1000R LUNGES forward when put into first!

Power delivery - I wonder whether he had the bike in Dynamic mode? That definitely affects the power delivery making it more urgent and aggressive. Again, after a few hours you get a feel for the bike and how it will respond.

Tacky plastics - take a look at a lot of other bikes out there - the GS is still a nice place to be.

All in all, I loved this bike. I enjoyed pottering around in a high up position with the relaxed power delivery and pliant suspension. However, when the demon reared its head...with a couple of button pushes I firmed up the suspension, remapped the engine to Dynamic sports mode and went off in search of sports bikes in the twisties.

I cant wait to collect mine

Your message made me laugh. I could have written that myself having switched from a Fireblade to a new GS two weeks ago. The whole image thing put me for years too but I think the RR has helped.
When I picked the bike up I was initially a little unsure as to whether I had made a massive mistake but with each outing I have grown more and more happy with it . It is definitely a bike that grows on you the more you ride it.
On a separate note I don't know if you ever saw a sketch by Jason Manford when his mum returned from Egypt claiming to have seen the Sphinkter in Cairo. His dad was sitting pissing himself in the background saying that she had been misquoting it for days but that it was so funny he didn't want to correct her. I have visions of a bloke in a pub using the word Gixter and all his mates (or maybe just the one) all trying not to smirk but leaving him to make a twat of himself time and again!

FFS. I've found the hidden kindergarten section. How did i get in here ?

That's exactly what i used to think years ago when reading about you lot "looking for fords to ride through and take pictures"
FFS:D

I know what you mean about it growing on you. I wasnt 100% sure after I picked it up as there was a bit or remorse in leaving my CB behind, but I remembered how during my 2nd test ride instead of taking the bike back, I nearly rode past the showroom and kept going. I went straight from the dealership to Wales....my CB was soon forgotten

the vid was a good effort, the biggest point he made is the new wassa target audience aint for your stereotypical 1150, tc, hexhead galactic travelers anymore, its for bored ageing blade, r1 owners looking for the alternative to a muti, ktm....like me:D

That's me! Actually apart from all the bollocks he talked on his vid I do agree about the adjustable screen - not the flimsy bit but the bit about the adjustment making bugger all difference. I'm 6'2" and have tried switching the screen between it's maximum settings on the go and can't tell the difference. Maybe I just need a taller screen. Anyone making them yet?

Touratech make a bigger screen.
I'm 5'8" and its a struggle for me too. At motorway speeds and at the maximum height its almost there...could do with being about an a couple of inches taller and an inch either side.....and if they did it in dark tint...perfect :D

At 5'10" the screen makes a massive difference to me - lots of smooth wind-rush past my helmet when set to the lowest position and a total change to much quieter when set to maximum height - no turbulence when wearing either my Schuberth C3 or Shoei Neotec. The LC screen feels like it has been designed as part of the bike's aerodynamics unlike the older screens which seemed like a bit of an afterthought.

.... if you asked me to mimic a Wasserhead owner It would have sounded like that guy.

He's got the Wasserhead caricature down to a tee with the right mix of every day uselessness and pathetic wining erm'ness

I've heard he's a professional but all his characters are of a similar fold - in fact his Mr Wasserhead impersonation is very close to his middle age'd insecure rent boy trying to attract attention character.

If this forum ever has the ability to read out posts I vote that he becomes the voice of the Wasserhead section :hide

The Alan Partridge of the motorcycling world, but the video quality was good.
