I'm now an Airhead owner

And Lucy............... is some Airhead

Lucy is sister to Lara, another Q-Tech R80 G/S owned by Chris (CTFT) and both bikes were built by 2 friends in Belgium, I believe

I am extremely grateful to Chris for faciltating the purchase of such a special machine, I owe you more than a few pints and supper

Basically she started life as a R80GS Monolever (probably a PD of 1988 vintage)

In 2004/2005 she was transformed into a special GS

The front frame was strengthened (HPN style) and powdercoated GS Basic blue and the Q Tech rear end was added

The motor was overhauled and checked, then a Siebenrock 1000cc kit was added, taking her up to 60+hp, together with a new Cam for more torque and a gearbox overhaul, with HPN lower 1st and longer 5th gearing added

Rear swing arm & shaft was extended, by HPN and a long travel Moto - X piggyback Ohlins with 3 way adjustment, was added

The front end is a new 2005 spec Yamaha WR450 48mm KYB unit, with 250mm Nissin rotor, caliper and master cylinder, matched to a WR450 Excel front wheel and hub. Springs were upgraded and forks revalved, for the extra weight of the boxer.

Fatbars and clamps were also added, together with a TT IMO computer.

Exhaust is off a stock Mono GS, mated to a Cagiva Elefant Alloy silencer

She came with both the 32 litre Mono PD tank, which has just been refurbished to new condition and is superb, plus the smaller tank suitable off roading excursions.

She looks absolutely gorgeous with the PD tank, which blends into the Q Tech rear end a treat

So there we have it..................

Here a selection of pics from the build

She was entered into a couple of Dutch events, which her original Belgian owner either won or won his class..................so she can shift  :D

As with any Airhead there is still a few jobs.............namely

New switchgear and the exhaust system to sort out, possibly Keihan front end mated to a Siebenrock or HPN rear silencer, plus maybe a better headlight/cockpit.......but I quite like the Enduro one

So there we have it....................a superb machine and very different to my Adv

I'm sure we'll have lots of fun :thumb

No wonder you were so cagey in your PM. Thats a cracking bike Johnny

How does she steer with those yolks? I've got a set of those forks sitting in my garage. I didn't know how they would steer with the different offset.

They're 48mm KYB's (+ WP springs) with Yamaha WR yokes

Seems to track pretty well

Turning circle's not the best I've ever experienced, but I guess you get used to it, seems ok to me though, you're welcome to inspect closer when you're up this way, Rob

Yes Sir, very nice one! :thumb

Cheers,
Michel
