Here's what I finally got

Well KTM is what I got in the end:

Stock G450X in 40hp trim with standard 15t front sprocket felt like a slightly overgeared 400EXC. Throttle response was good.

Stock gearing with full power (plug & Akra) transformed the bike, throttle response was incredibly sharp. Gearing was no longer an issue, it romped up the steep hill at the Offroad School where you practice hill recovery.

Full power & 13t sprocket was an animal, very easy to tie yourself in a knot.

The Akra really sharpens up the throttle response as the Cat's removed, a nice combo for trailriding would be a 14t sprocket, 40hp & the Akra. I found the 40hp bike with standard silencer very easy easy to ride in thick mud etc.

Suspension was very compliant & seems to be set up a little like an EXC i.e. set up for someone weighing 85-90kg wearing all their riding gear. Obviously rear preload can be adjusted but much heavier & you'll need a stronger spring.

It seems the big arguing point now is 'cost'.
As you can see earlier in this thread, there are several prices being banded round, and what do you get for the money.........
I think Motorrad made a big mistake putting the £5101 price on the configurator part of their website, as this has mislead some folk. Many put a £500 deposite on a machine that the only source of pricing given was on this website, as dealers shrugged shoulders and said we don't know anything about the price or the package. We soon will cause we're attending a blah-blah-blah....

Very nice - first impressions?

The ride from the dealer to home was exhilarating but short and only paved roads. I'll take it out on some nasty single track this weekend and let you know. I might even take some pictures (new bike fever sindrome). :blast
