I rode the 2010 1200GSA today.....

Took one out myself yesterday, the 12GSA. Roads were a bit greasy but I definately thought it was a better bike than mine,an '09 12GS. Not enough to make me order one but I'll certainly be having one later in the year. The motor feels a good 10% more powerful and sounds good too. A bit like my R1200S on a Remus with the baffles out.
****rpm through the tunnel under L/B Airport put a big grin on my face. It would'nt need an aftermarket can anyway. I liked it. :)

Pathfinder, nice to meet you. We'll stop by the boat next time we're in Skipton :thumb2

I concur completely with your findings sir,but over £3000,after only 12 months to change, puts a hold on a purchase.Good to meet you and your good wife and stop by soon.:)

Cheers Ken but that's the last time I'll be photographed with the K1300S as I sold it to a fellow GSer this morning!!!!!!!!!!

Now how to spec a new GSA...........................

I'm really looking forward to my test ride next weekend now. Got a 2010 GSA for 24 hours, and hopefully this will be enough time to decide whether to swap my 1050 Tiger for one.
The bike I'm taking out has all the gadgets, ASC, ESA, ABS etc. Will have a play and see what they're all like, and whether they're worth having.
Did anyone take any photos of the bike? If so can they post them on here please? I can't decide whether I'd prefer the grey or yellow, not really seen a good picture of the yellow though.

Would anyone say that the 09 gsa with a few mods ......power commander decat pipes, sports can could be brought up too the 2010 power and throttle response for a lot less dosh.
Would folk agree that just because its twin cam with a different valve opening mechanism that this is not the sole reason it makes more power and better fueling, has the bike got a full new fuel map and that is a major part in the better overall feel of the bike.

I am not trying to make out that its not a good bike, folk who are thinking of getting one GO FOR IT its a great feeling getting a knew bike.

Just some thoughts

My theory is that the 2 improvements your likely to notice on the 2010 is the EXUP valve (fills in the low rev torque) and because of this the lest restrictive silencer. I have an FZR1000 EXUP and trust me when it jams you notice it isn't working anymore instantly. I think the rest of the mods are marketing gimmicks on the GS to get you to buy the new improved model. Unfortunately the EXUP valve would be difficult to add to the earlier model but not impossible. The valve you can obviously buy from BMW now but the electronics to control it would need worked out plus I am not sure what it would do to the fuel maps and whether a power commander could tune it enough.

I had to register an official complaint today with Mike Andrews at Bahnstormer after they sold me a K1300S two months ago. Why? Because I was so blown away by the new 2010 1200GSA that I know I bought the wrong bike and should have waited:blast

The new engine is a revelation with linear power across the rev range. I rode for 45 mins into Winchester and along the A272 and the bike, with ESA, was comfortable in town and ripping on the open road. Sitting at 40mph in sixth and its just twist and go to 100mph in no time at all. This rush is accompanied by a rorty exhaust note. The whole experience made the bike feel so different from the 07 GSA I put 22k miles on. I realise that this is subjective but the new bike felt lighter, more purposeful than my old one. Upon my return to Bahnstormer, I spoke to another rider who then took the same bike for a ride. His opinion and surprise echoes mine.

So, if you are looking for the complete bike (ie Morocco, Salisbury Plain, Nurburgring, daily grind, Sunday thrash, Easter Dash), the 2010 GSA is it.

Now, who'd like a fully loaded K1300S with 960miles...............:aidan

Nice report but dont get too carried away lol;)

So there were a few posts about upcoming test rides. Any fresh opinions?

Got a spare bit of dosh at the mo so even though my GSA is is just over 12 months old, I thought I'd go and have a test ride of the 2010 GSA to see what all the fuss was about. I went along with an open mind and seriously considered trading mine in IF the latest incarnation was a significant improvement.

My thoughts on the new bike??
As mentioned in an earlier thread - linear acceleration from low revs upwards. Nice.
Slightly quicker acceleration. Relevant on a GS?
Nice exhaust note.
Definite improvements but the differences are so subtle when comparing to my year old bike.

It would make sense to buy this bike if you happen to be ready for a trade in or don't already own a Bavarian tractor. But the advancements are just not significant enough to warrant chopping in a newish bike.

My 9.5K miles bike has got all the bells and whistles added to it and my local dealer's starting haggle was 5 grand to trade in for a same spec new one.

I'm keeping the 5K in the bank and I'm interested to see if KTM release a 690 Adventure this year. I'm thinking that a 690 Adventure could be a very good Morocco vehicle.

At last!

Does this mean that owners of the older and, obviously, much better ORIGINAL 1200 will be accepted into the land of poo & wee and can start harping bollox about how the build quality is inferior, its less torquey and that the can-bus/engine/drive train/gear box is made of silly putty and will self destruct in 5 miles...........

Sounds like a shite bike to me, give me a good, solid, old skoOl 1200 any day :P

Andres

You da man Andres!

:nod

:D

I ordered one yesterday (standard GS) - the engine is a lot nicer. Also now a mature model so hoping they've addressed any remaining reliability issues.

Hi, first post so must firstly thank everyone for all the great info on the site.

I had a test ride on the 2010 GSA myself today and loved it so I'm pretty sure I'm going to order one this week.

My question to you all is how much (if anything) do you think/know I should be looking to negotiate off the list price? I will be a cash buyer and probably not trading anything in against it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sometimes when a new model comes out and demand is high you dont get very good discounts, but if you are looking to have one ready for the summer (if we have one!) you have to bite the bullet.
Ring a few dealers and see whos best :thumb2
