zumo 550 security pin help !!!!

Hi All,
we have just had an R1200RT traded in with the above sat nav fitted.
however when you turn it on it asks for a pin number which the previous owner seems to have lost !
for love nor money can i find a way of erasing this to allow the new owner to use it.
i have tried the bottom r/h screen whislt powering up to delete data but this does not remove the security pin.
any help greatly appreciated as i have drawn a blank.

It needs returning to Garmin to reset. Although if it was registered with another owner, they may need a letter of authority from the previous user.

Otherwise, you may need to try up to 9999 different combinations of pin.

Long shot...

With the 550 i have you can set the unit so it locks itself as this one has done. But when you are at your designated home location (if one has been set) the unit will "start up" and not need the pin code at that location...

The pin code is needed when you "fire it up" at locations away from the home base...

If you could try the unit at the previous owners home location (if he had the unit set up in such a way) it might not request the code. Then, if you could get the unit switched on, you could alter the security option to not require the pin...

Long shot as I say - but the previous owner should be able to tell you if the unit requested the code when started at "home"...
