I often see fellow GS's about and nod or wave, but occasionally it might be nice to actually say "hello". Or offer travel tips if they are heading straight towards the pile up you have just passed 10 mins ago!

Do we have a common radio channel we generally use as members of the UKGSer.com fraternity?

I currently have a Kenwood if that matters!

Radio 2 normally does it for me, but it has been a bit crap lately
:beerjug:

Radio 2 for me too. I think the Jeremy Vine slot is ok,he gets a few twats and ranters on,so makes me feel at home after this forum.....:augie. Wogan was so awful in the latter months I used to switch him off,was relieved what he was pensioned off.Steve Wright gets on my wick now, rekon it's time for a change for the afternoon slot soon too. Simon Mayo is brilliant on the drive time show. I have it on as I drive round all day and have done for years ( I'm in sales:augie).........Too old for radio 1 these days.

I use pmr 446 ch1 no ctcss, but you can get away with that in the highlands..........

try ch 9 for a bit of peace and quiet if you are in a city:augie

yes there is one ,no I'm not expanding on the subject.............;)

If you are a member of a 'club' you can buy a 5 yr'general' licence for £75

it gives you about a dozen frequencies..........3 in the uhf 449mhz range for use between club members........one licence several thousand members all allowed to use the equipment, and up to 10watts power,legally...........

ukgser might want to look at that and allow 'subscribers' to use the licence.

The rules on uk general licences changed recently and I havent examined the new regs......but opsi will have the details if you search for 'uk general'

The UK General Licence provides a type of Private Mobile Radio service that "allows customers to use hand-portable or mobile radio equipment anywhere within the UK without the need to inform RA" relatively cheaply, with a choice of 15 channels from 77 MHz VHF to 449 MHz UHF. See the Radiocommunications Agency (RA) information sheet RA 412 at http://www.radio.gov.uk/publication/ra_info/ra412.htm for more details.

"the use of base stations is not permitted unless prior authorisation has been obtained from RA. There is no limitation on the number of sites where a licensee can use radios covered by the UK General licence, or on the duration of use at any location."

"The licence fee for this product is £60 every three years, irrespective of the number of mobiles in use."

i thinks its now £75 for 5 yrs ...........but thats less than 1 pence each for every 'club' member that would have the chance to use it.
