IAM - SMIDSY research poll

Just to bore Mav with more graphs / bollox :D

This is a pretty classic smidsy;

What is the point of these graphs and diagrams. They bare no relevence to everyday riding.

Not once, anywhere, have i seen a diagram containing the biggest problem when riding in heavy populated areas. Pedestrians in groups walking along on the pavement obscuring the emerging vehicles rider/driver of the oncoming traffic.
The nearer the pedestrians get to the junction the more they obscure.

It works both ways - Many a time on the main section of road i've slowed and had another vehicle go past, even a car swerved around me once, and then they have to apply the anchors as the car/bike emerges from the side road hidden behind a group of pedestrians.

There are very few truly 'blind' junctions I'd suggest...
:beerjug:[/QUOTE]

Junctions can change minute by minute, as my example above. So long as you don't get into the habit of pre-judging what is, or isn't "blind", as diagrams would have you believe...:D

And as i've posted many times before, i never have all these vehicles pulling out in front of me, and i never have headlights or riding lights on during the day, or wear any Hi-vis. !!

Just draw some stickmen on your enginering standard diagram. :D

But don't forget to add a warning that real people and vehicles may behave unpredictably unlike the stickmen and cars in diagrams. :D

...they appear to see me (despite lack of high viz), as indicated by eye contact or momentary hesitation, then the feckers pull out anyway.

So so much of SMIDSY as POIBTY (píss off, I'm bigger than you).

Bike magazine... article on motion camouflage... dragon fly

Ever since reading (and appreciating the logic of) that article, whenever I've seen a numpty at a side road I've done a little weave to make my approach more obvious.
