Imagine you bought a trail bike back in 2000, quite an unusual trail bike at that. Imagine keeping it in lovely condition for 13 years. Imagine it being your favourite bike. Imagine being really attached to it. Imagine then if you will someone stealing it and dumping it in the SEA!!!

The owner of this bike kept it at his holiday place down by the sea. He visited one weekend and while unloading his car on the drive got chatting to his neighbour. The conversation went something like this "I was walking the dog down at the beach during the week and someone's dumped a motorbike in the sea .... you should go down and take a look"
Naturally he wandered down for a look (as we all would I'm sure) to be confronted with his CRM sticking out of the sand! :barf

This was about 18 months ago.

I got the bike back in December. The engine was out of the frame and had been 'gone over' by somebody that the owner knows and found to be ok, The oil pump was bled and the gearbox oil replenished. It did however still look pretty rough.
The swingarm had been removed as a complete unit with the rear wheel, brake caliper, rear shock and links still attached. It came out of the van as a front end assembly and a few crates of cosmetic bits.
I spent an hour assessing the situation …… it wasn’t good!
The steel fuel tank was covered in tiny paint blisters, upon getting stuck in I discovered about 40 pin holes in the tank, eaten away from the inside. The carb was still hanging from it's cables in the empty space where the engine had been ..... Full of salt water
Callipers - Buggered
Speedo - Buggered
Swithchgear - Buggered
Throttle cables, speedo cable, clutch cable, wheel bearings, swingarm bearings, headstock bearings, exhaust tailpipe, indicators, lights, brake light switches etc etc - You guessed it - all buggered.

Everything was full of sand, pebbles, salt and rust!

I wrote out a quote and emailed it off to him , 75% of the total was for parts alone! About 2 minutes later my phone rang. He decided to just buy a donor bike. It made sense really as the Activated Radical model was a bit of a special with many parts unique to it, nearly all of them now obsolete. Many of them on the bike had the potential to fail given the fact they'd spent a few tides in the sea and all ..............

A donor bike was purchased (which was in itself a very nice example but with a very tired engine) and I set to work!

Strip down and the frame went off to power coating. I put new bearings and seals in the wheels from the original bike. They were especially built for the bike when it was new - Talon hubs and Exell rims. Calliper strip, blast, paint and rebuild. Every fastener went off for plating including all the axels, pivots, gear and brake pedals etc.
Then build up using the best of all the components but keeping the original frame and engine and as many of the original bits as was practical.

I'll let the numerous photographs do the talking. It's 99% finished, just the bash plate, shock guard and hand guards to fit. Off for an MOT on Tuesday!

I have to say it's a bloody gorgeous bike!!!
