I can't possibly comment about the very same controller that I took off you in Meknes, after you implemented the emergency bypass and then I put onto the loan 1200GS from BMW ;)

Can't remember the precise timings and so on, but (of three FPC failures)
- I had one fail in 2005 bike recovered & repaired under warranty
- one fail in 2006 bike repaired by BMW assist
- one fail in 2007 bike repaired by BMW assist

BMW assist: "oh, this happens all the time. I keep a load of spares in the boot" and once "you should write to BMW about it" before sticking a load of tape over the vents in the mounting and saying "that should fix it"

purely unscientific anecdotal evidence. Fair weather bikers unaffected!

Good luck with this, good to see someone fighting back. I recently contacted BBC Watchdog on the EWS problem. Have you considered getting the wider BMW community involved? There is a good USA forum who would probably help in getting reports of this problem (www.ibmwr.org)

When: Mar 08
Where: Hillbilly Country, Northern Spain
Name: Me
Bike: 06 1200GSA
Remedy: Paid a non BMW garage to replace it, as the BMW dealer in town was closed for the weekend - cost about £100. Bike was under warranty but if I waited for the BMW dealer I would have been delayed at least 2 days and had to buy a new ferry ticket. Despite being under warranty, BMW would not reimburse me the replacement costs.
Days lost: none (see above)

I've had 2 failures. 54 plate bike owned from new. First failure June 2006 after 18 months, recovered and replaced under warranty. Second failure out of warranty July 2007, recovered and fixed by independent BMW mechanic.

Well done for trying to get a handle on the size of the problem.

The first failure is incorporated in 2007 figures. As you are not certain of the others I haven't included them.
