Headlight Shroud

Fed up with the light shining onto the inside of the screen on my 1100 I made this ages ago to stop it and it absolutely transformed the bike at night, no more light reflected at all. I have now made 2 or 3 for other people who think it's a good idea, and think that there are a lot more people out there who could do with one.
Have a look and see what you think.

See you have fitted extra lights on, how did you do the wiring/switch? , looked at twin head light and a light bar of one of the lads on this forum.

Legal ?

Looks good, serves a useful purpose and I want one, but is it legal ?
Under Construction and Use regulations you might have a problem with a thin leading edge (effectively a blade) on the front of a vehicle. It's been a while since I studied the regs or took much interest in traffic issues, but I think you would fall foul of the 'likely to cause harm in the event of a collision' test, which used to be the standard for an offence of 'Dangerous Condition'.
Having said that the Beak must have passed TuV which is a much more stringent procedure. Perhaps someone with more recent knowledge of traffic legislation could assist.

Here goes then;
I'm pretty sure they'll fit with the tobinators, I've just sent one to some tosser (you know who you are) that's got tobinators fitted, so watch this space.
These are really hand made, and each one takes ages to do to get them to fit properly. I'm aiming at about £35 each, on an exchange basis. From now on, the aluminium will be anodised black as well.
I don't know if it's legal or not. If a wipe off (aka pedestrian) gets in my way, the more pointy sharp things I have on the front of my bike, the better, teach 'em to look next time. However, if you are worried, concerned or just no sure about it, I would stick with a bog standard Mbw, then you can run wipe offs over until your hearts content, safe in the knowledge that you won't hurt their little leggies with your quarter tonne bike

Gary, the lights are hitched up from the battery, via a relay and on/off switch to the full beam on the headlight. I make the light bars myself

Yep, Vern's new doo-dah will fit with Tobinators and cure the reflections inside the screen when you have the screen positioned in a forwards sort of orientation.

As I have Tobinators on my 1100, you best put me down for a headlight shroud too. In fact why don't I just leave my bike with you along with some blank signed cheques.

Headlight shroud

I can't see why one is necessary for the 1150 as the silver panel (beneath the screen) already overlaps the top of the light-units (moreso the hi-beam unit), probably for this very reason.
Certainly it is not something I have experienced on my 1150.

I recently bought a R1100GS and installed a Philips Gold H4. After I adjusted the screen fully forward I noticed the line of light playing on the inside of my screen. The incredible beauty of this golden glow, and the assurance that I can always tell if my headlight works, urge me to negate your kind offer of a shroud to take away this spectral glory...

I'll save my money for more urgent modifications...

I find it quite easy to tell when my headlights on at night, without the screen being lit up, and you can't see the reflection on a sunny day anyway.

We got too many street lights over here. That's why I'm not interested in forking over 330 euro for some Xenon Aux Lights - the R1100GS H4 Philips Gold 55/60w is enough around here.

Vern, I would like to get one of the headlight shields for my 1100GS. I've just installed my Tobinators with a Wunderlich Varioscreen, and I know that I will have a problem with the light reflecting on the inside of the screen.

I had it with the stock screen until I pushed it all the way back.

I am not "seasoned" enough to send you a PM here. I spend too much time on advrider I suppose.

Which size do you want ??

Ok folks, if you want one of these shrouds, I need to know what size to make them, so I need some measurements from you.
If you measure forward, from the headlight glass, to the bottom edge of the screen, then add about half an inch, I think that will do the job.
OR put the screen as far forward as it will go, and give me the distance (measured in the same way) so that the shroud will cover all settings of your tobinated screen.
I'm afraid these are going to cost about £35 each +p&p exchange, as there is no quick way of making them, apart from bending them by hand.
You might also need to shave a bit of plastic off the bottom of your screen (un-tobinated) to get a snug fit.

I am not sure I want one now, came back from a trip to France last night (collioure) and the "back glow" is quite nice and I am sure it helps the car drivers see my hand gestures with much more clarity. We have to think of them as well you know.

That's what I think too. Damn shame to pay 35 gbp to eliminate this cute glowing stripe on the inside of my screen. Shrouds are for fuzzy people.

No, Vern, you're right. Damn annoying glow. Get a 35 gbp shroud to eliminate it. No more distractions. Right. On.
