Went to the NEC last Friday expecting something spectacular from Autocom.

I must say i was less than impressed with the new product unless the sales guy on the stand was a complete numpty.

Question - "is it digital" - answer - "it is partly digital"

Question - "is it bluetooth" - answer - not really .

It seems the new product will talk with another unit (passenger etc) and there are no wires attaching to the bike.

maybe someone knows different.

Digital is just one of those "Sales" words that make you think it's got to be better coz it says Digital..

Autocom have always had a good sound (but you may have to buy extra bits to get it.... the bit i have a gripe with:D)

As for no wires... i can't see that happening... GSrich i think said somewhere that autocom use wired systems because they have better sound.... so i can't see them going back on that.

My apolgoes on how you feel but as we speak the systems are still very new and we are still learning them ourselves. It wasnt me though as I was only at the show for 5 mins before I got called back into office.

As for our 09 systems they are NOT digital as believe it or not they were actually louder on the speaker hiss than our current analogue systems.

Our new Logic Independance runs a BT connection between the two main hubs kept on person for mainly speech so the rider and pillion can run their own music and phone etc. There is an option to flick a switch to allow for the music to be shared between the headsets.

As for your views on the new systems not being very spectacular they are gonig down very well actually as many of the 1000's we spoke to over the wkend are loving the idea of the Independance and also our new Super Pro AVi RC which comes with a handle bar mounted remote for adjusting levels when riding.

GSRich - is there any documentation available relating to the new system(s).

I can't make it to the NEC (busted achilles - so not up to walkintg around for too long at the mo)), and there was nothing on your website yesterday (or at least I couldn't find anything).

I'm interested in 'wireless' headsets - so any information would be most welcome.

Cheers

Does anyone want bluetooth?
Just raising the question, I for one dont want microwaves radiating around my helmet.
I dont know what the safety implications of bluetooth are, does anyone know?

This what I want to achieve.

Connect GPS - BMW navigator
Phone - Nikia N96
Music - Ipod or Mp3 etc
Bike to bike

I have new BMW bluetooth helmet although can do without this.
Ultimate ear monitor speakers.

Not too bothered about passenger as usually on my own.

What can you recommend.

I do not mind wired system.

Bike - GS1200 and K1200S

Bluetooth uses very low power - Bluetooth can use only 1 milliwatt compared to a mobile phone at 3 watts or a hand held radio transmitter at around 5 to 7 watts (an old CB - if anyone remembers these - can put out up to 25 watts). You get more radiation standing in the sun. :Motomartin

I'm running pretty much what you are, I'm using the Intaride Evo (intergrated Bluetooth and digital) with their IR-803 radio (lets you listen to FM radio as well) they'll make any leads up you need, give em a bell you'll be surprised at how good the service is, also ask em what they've got planned :drool:drool. http://www.intaride.com/ :thumb2

karl which model is the GPS as the connections vary, also would you like the bike to bike to be fully bike powered or self powered?

Rich :beerjug:

No problems then so if you are looking saving yourself a bit of money you could run the below then

Kit 300 Duo £140 (Super Pro AVi main rider and pillion kit)
1x Part 1285 £24 (isolation adaptor for the GPS)
1x Part 1294 £5 (GPS interface lead)
Either 1x Part 1273 £75 BT dongle to run the nokia via the Nav 3)
or 1x Part 1261 £10 (Nokia phone adaptor block on a wired phone connection)
1x Part 1358 £198 (Kenwood TK3201 transceiver)
1x Part 1402 £27 (Kenwood dummy battery power and audio pack)
2x part 1512's £24 (bike to bike extension leads due to there not being enough room on the bike for the Kenwood)

if you want to run the Kenwood via a PTT a Part 1457 £38

Or if you are looking at the new 09 systems let me know as I will need to get you the different prices and new part numbers and prices.

Rich, for those of us that are thousands of miles from the NEC do you have something you could post in regards to the new systems that you have come out with? I check the Autocom web site and it has no mention of new systems.

Thanks!

Steve

Rich

thanks for the info.

Could you supply based on '09 system.

thanks

karl

Rich's is an excellent solution as the NavIII is a b**ch to connect up. In your particular case the equivalent 09 main unit would probably not give a better result. I am surprised that you did not ask Rich about being able to transfer all this gear from the K1200S to the R1200GS easily.

Once I know the base system requirements then I can sort out the actual kit needed for both bikes.

Now your just plain lazy get over now lol but yeah our web site is being worked on as we speak mate so keep an eye on there for updates.

karl no problems, the parts will be the same but the cost of the kit would be different at £320 for the new Super Pro Auto.

Installing Autocom - Inside Bike or Tank Bag

Fellow tourers a question. In your experience is it better to install the Autocom hub inside the bike along with the Kenwood or have all the items in a Tank bag. Just debating in terms of practicality - security and ease of use (leads / connectors) etc. Any working knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Eddie

KIT purchased so far :
Kenwood TK-3201 mark II
Garmin Zumo 550
