Had a very enjoyable day rolling around in the mud and ice with some Tossers today.

I can't face uploading all my photos twice, so have a look at them on the XRV forum.

And guys, the website I was talking about is at www.la-basse-cour.co.uk. You can email me via there and we'll sort out a date sometime. Geordiefoote has been.

Team Flatlanders ...

Hi, it was a great day, but the conditions borded on the extreme.

The visitors were on machines that would not have been out of place at the Paris/Dakar.:(

Time, injury, etc meant early departure for the sensible three. Freezing temperatures meant backroad tarmack was covered in sheet ice, allowing the remaining 6 to show off pirouette skills, and some (inc moi), just to bin it along the road.

The trails should have been better, but beet lifting had changed the surfaces dramatically, with deep muddy ruts full of water / ice with no grassy edges to escape into. Sunny sections that gave slippery mud, slime, water and sand, instantly changed into solid ruts, ridges and ice in the shade.

The usual "soak thy mate", by slamming through a big puddle next to him, ended up with, 'watch out for flying shards of ice'. Bikes were parked in trees and one turned into a virtual submarine, but all had a great day that only finished when 'light stopped play'.

These guys, have certainly earned the Honorary 'Team Flatlanders' status.

The next planned run is probably on the 29th.:bounce1 We hope to include some of the less known trails, (and yes this time we will stop for coffee photos fags etc.)

Again thanks to all, specially Halfpint for arranging the ride and acting as sweeper on the day.

Regards Richard

ps BE WARY OF WATER HOLES AS THEY ARE BEING SPIKED WITH METAL CONCRETE ETC
Probably explains the 3" nail sticking out of my tyre when I got home

Just joined from the 'other side' (XRV forum) to say a big thanks to Scottie, Halfpint and Dorsal Fin for letting us all tag along with you.

Heres a direct link to our ride reports and some pics :

Just cleaning the bike + new back tyre and a few minor repairs :augie ready for the next one :thumb2

Cheers guys.

Looks like you had a cracking day? I know the conditions you were experiencing..........I raced a 3hr H and H at Chatteris in similar conditions.

Every lap completed, the ruts got deeper, the concrete sections got slippier and the falls became more frequent:D

Added to all of this, I was having to pay a visit to the Portaloo after every lap to do some body servicing.......not pleasant:mad:

Richard AKA Scottie, I can't believe it; a veritable riding god if ever there was one, actually binned your bike.
It was clearly a really good decision of mine not to go 'cos if even you dropped it, I would have been permanently picking mine up!:(

Re the 3" nail Scottie, did you have that "slime" or what in your inner tubes which allowed you to ride home?
I think I'll get some if it worked that well
Cheers
Ray

I reckon that's what happend to me near the other day... I decided to ride though a very deep and long water hole and came out with a nice spike in the tyre.

I must get upto Thetford sometime, its not that far from StAlbans

It's in my diary too and I might bring a couple of mates on 250 Yamahas if that's OK?
I am also free for a reconnoitre if there is one, especially now my bike starts OK (thinking of you HP);)
Cheers
Ray

recon

thursday would be better for me or I might have to tell a lie or two,I think i might have man flue!!!! Just keep warm and ride a trail or two I am in.:pullface

With the amount of hours I've been working recently, the buggers owe me some time off - could you keep me posted on arrangements for the recce. I might not be able to make it, but it would be sad to miss out.

I've got a couple of mates (and possibly brothers and other mates) who may be interested in a rideout on the 29th - is this likely to be a problem for anyone? I know most of the people involved and they're a good bunch of blokes, and I'm happy to make sure that they know the ground rules in advance, so let me know and I'll clue them in.

Team Flatlanders ...

Hi Guys, for obvious reasons our rides are kept to single numbers and the 29th is full.

Riders have been contacted.:thumb2
