As part of our exchange visits plan, last year Chris "2gses" and his son Richard and Phil travelled down to the Flatlands for a ride out.
Took a bit of time to organise but a couple of weeks back it was our turn to go up to their area. Chris found us a great campervan site at Bishopsthorpe, just on the outskirts of York. I left early and had a very wet trip up, still the heater worked well. The others left a bit later and got into serious long distance diversions due to a big accident closing the main road.
Was a bit wet, the first thing I noticed at Bishopsthorpe was this weird kind of Yorkshire parking.
Got parked up in a nice spot by the river, unloaded, got the van set for sleeping, got changed into my wet gear and then Chris and Richard turned up and we set of into the wet. Had a great runaround, locals will know the places, got wet then dry and then wet again. This theme continues for the weekend
Had a great afternoon riding around the green lanes. Got bogged down on what I now call slimey hill, thanks for the help Richard. Tyres just got filled with slimey gloop till there was no grip. and the depth of the ruts was unbelievable. Like a tank training ground.
Managed over 80 miles that afternoon, mostly off road before returning to the campsite to find the others had finally made it. Cold beers were passed around and we set off for the pub and food and a few beers with our hosts.
1st thing the next morning was just great, brilliant sunshine. The other bikes got unloaded, breakfast was taken and then a big
Scotties modified front wheel was shown for the first time
He reconed that if he rode at his normal very slow pace then the small wheel would just gently glide over the rough spots and on the flat bits it wouldn't matter cos it would be in the air and save on tyre wear.
We had a fantastic wet and dry run out, I made it 220 miles. Got ride some great trails, steep ups and downs, uup and oveeer t moors, uup and oveeer t Dales. Did a few of these trails on our GSes at the Rosedale bash a few years back. Few photos. And a bit of wet stuff.
Way out in the wilds, but read the caption, it all gets explained later on.
Anyways back to the original.......We find what they were, spare petrol. Dropped of as a secret fuel dump half way across. But leaking, so the only thing to do is to share the fuel out.
But Chris went back and showed how it should be done.
We stopped off at some old ruin then made a run for home. Got about half a mile from the site when the sky's opened again. Arrived back soaked yet again, but the beer was cold and a great days riding was over.
Final part was Chris and Gails request that I might relay a dog down to Kings Lynn on my way home. They tell me that they take in badly treated dogs and then find them new homes with caring people.
Big from me and I'm introduced to Willow, she is a Shite-zoo
But is one of the best passengers I have carried. Not a sound from her. but I get some strange looks whilst walking her around Mcdee's at Newark coffee stop with her pink lead.
Thanks for that Graham, glad you all enjoyed the bimble round over the weekend, looking forward to the next episode, perhaps we could come down to you and squeeze a run in before september, would it be ok for the wheely king to come along to Norfolk, compared to his usual riding he did well i usually have to show him a yellow then red card, i wasn't impressed with his wheely in the middle of york on saturday night
