I have suffered an annoying squeek, for some time now, which I have finally identified as from a loose mirror glass. It has truly taken me a long time to locate the squeak ! A DIY repair , with silicone, from the rear, has foolishly resulted in a very heavy mirror :blast

So, I need a new mirror, but consider the BMW ones too prone to getting bashed, if the bike is dropped. Has anyone tried any alternative, eg KTM and if so can the alternative be fitted without alteration? :D

p.s. I have done a search and a similar thread received few usable replies

Good question.
I am also looking to fit different mirrors to my GSA. I have seen some custom ones for the GS on ebay, but they are from China. anyone bought a set of them??

I have replaced the mirrors on several bikes but am happy with what I've got now on the Adventure.

Smaller mirrors usually have shorter stems and this makes 'em worthless. If anything the mirrors I have now could be a bit higher or further out.

I've seen some 'mirror extenders' but the way they work means they would protrude over the switchgear.

I think you will fined there was a service action on loose wing mirror glasses and the whole assembly was replaced FOC :augie

Actually, BMW's oval mirrors from K12/1300R are a perfect fit, resulting in a wider and better view backwards... which means they stick out a bit more.
I've got them on my R12GS and since headlights, dashboardmeters, and even exhaust end are oval... I think they improve the overall looks :thumb

I wouldn't want them to stick out any more because that will shorten their life
btw a new mirror assembly is £40.10 inc vat

Some pictures needed ?

Here you are then, summertime in the French Alps :

I switched mirrors mainly to have a better view backwards.
The improved looks were a coincidence.

Cheers, GSband

The original mirrors on F800GS are angular, as are the headlights.
Dunno what the K12/13R mirrors would look like on a F800GS, and don't know if they fit. :nenau

My mirrors are not threaded. They are held in place by collets. The benefit of this is that tw*tting the mirror moves it or, in extremis, breaks it, without damaging the mount. If you've ever tried to restore a mirror mounting thread you'll know why this is a good thing.

mirrors for a tenner!

I have just fitted a pair of "Koso" mirrors on my 2006 GSA, got them for a tenner on eBya, paid £12 postage but they arrived within 8 days... from Hong-Kong!!!

They are smaller than the originals but slightly wider, the only negative point is that they have a "blue-ish" tint, which I'm not sure will work well in low-light condition.
I'll go for a ride later and keep you posted.

Oh yes they do..............:D

Sorry for bring from the dead such an old thread but I think that I did a smaaaall mistake.

You changed the whole mirrors with their bases also...or you changed only the mirror and keep the same base from the R1200GS ?? what I am trying to find out is the diameter of the mirror that goes in the adapter, because it doesn't look that is the same like the ones in the R1200Gs...
A picture would be very helpful....
