Took the GSA (2007) on a run to Millau three weeks ago. The bike had 6300 miles on it when I set off and was running well with no issues. Following a brisk
ride through the twisty D and N roads a pulsing started in the front brake lever which got rapidly worse
Riding into Millau one of the guys I was with told me that the rear wheel on my bike was "wobbling".On inspection at the hotel it became even more worrying as well as the rear wheel being all over the place the rear disk was so warped that the caliper was moving side to side as the wheel turned.
The only thing I could do was to start moaning about it endlessly with the others and announce I was going to buy a MultiStrada
On return to the UK I set about sorting out the problem......I rang NOG, where I bought the bike, to be told that I must have hit a pot hole and that they "had heard about a couple of disks warping before and BMW may contribute blah blah"
Bahnstormers were superb. I rode the bike to them and they looked at it when I arrived. The guy spent a good while examining it and then with a "grab your self a coffee"
disappeared to consider his verdict.
I was expecting to argue the toss about a new rear disk as I have read so many posts on here, but no he reappeared with a BMW technical bulletin in hand and suggested I leave the bike so they could measure run out on the rear hub
3 days latter I get a call from the very nice man at Bahnstormer to say that BMW have agreed to replace the entire Final Drive unit and that I would have the bike back at the weekend
When I collected the bike I was told that the hub was faulty and that this was a known problem by BMW. So moral of the story is this. When your rear disk warps ask why, there is no reason it should if the hub it is bolted to runs true.......and if it does not it will warp again.
Massive thank you to the guys at Bahnstormers
they where superb in sorting this out.
One last thing, what is the best oil for a 1200.........
